“Health is wealth” gets said a lot but what it really means changes as we get older.
At 40, I think differently about my body. Hormones shift. Muscle mass declines. Recovery looks different. And longevity isn’t just about living longer, it’s about being capable longer.
I don’t want to be 80 and unable to walk, travel, or live independently. I want to be thriving.
For me, functional medicine and wellness aren’t about perfection or control. I’m not giving up everything I love or turning my life upside down.
It looks like small, intentional choices:
• prioritizing strength training
• choosing cleaner foods when I can
• cooking with better oils
• reducing soda intake (not eliminating but I’m trying hard), BTW 17 days without soda
• focusing on whole foods over ultra-processed ones
• supporting my environment: air, water, sleep, cookware, storage containers etc.
And yes, I still enjoy my treats. Because sustainability matters.
Longevity doesn’t mean becoming someone you’re not. It means making changes that fit your life, and letting those habits build over time.
Small tweaks → consistency → real change.
That’s what wellness looks like to me.
