In 2023, Mo's OBX Skeeter Beater was donated by it's owners to Skills, Incorporated, 501c3 non-profit in Elizabeth City, NC serving the disabled population of Northeastern North Carolina. Our goal for OBX Skeeter Beater is to use the manufacturing and sale of this product to:
1) Help teach the necessary soft skills for this historically underemployed population to become valued employees and help find them employment within their home community.
2) Provide a paid work/training experience for persons with disabilities to build the confidence and skills necessary to maintain lifelong employment.
3) Teach modern, marketable skills such as on-line order fulfillment to meet the growing needs of a growing e-commerce in the area.
4) Provide a sustainable and nurturing integrated work environment where employees are safe to learn and grow at their own pace.
5) Show that workers with disabilities are valuable and capable of making quality and needed products for members of the community. With the assistance of OBX Skeeter Beater, Skills, Inc. is the areas largest employer of persons with disabilities in a competitive, integrated setting that preserves respect and dignity while customizing employment for individual's specific needs.
