As an entrepreneur, chances are you neglect your sleep big time, so you can be “more productive”.

In reality, you’re spending more time working while being less productive.

It’s incredibly inefficient.

Your focus, energy, and intensity are direct outcomes of the quality of your sleep.

This doesn’t mean you need to sleep for 10 hours a night. Quality of sleep is much more important than quantity.

Here are 3 ways to increasing your energy, focus, and productivity through quality sleep:

Align Light Exposure with Circadian Rhythm

Our body regulates itself based on our circadian rhythm, our internal clock. Get plenty of sunlight exposure during the day, and use dim lighting for the hours leading up to sleep. Completely blackout your room at night.

Get a workout in at the right time

When doing a hard workout, your body releases cortisol, which stimulates your body and suppresses melatonin production. Do your workout no later than 3 hours prior to sleep.

Eat Properly

The most food that you consume is likely inflammatory and hurts the quality of your sleep. Stick to non-processed foods and fresh local produce and meat. Have your last bite of food no later than 2-3 hours prior to sleep.

Most importantly, these things all take consistency. It’s compound interest. The more consistent the quality of sleep you get, the more of a beast you’ll become.

If you're like most people, your first impulse in the morning is to get on your phone. Whether it’s to get on social media, check emails, or read the news, you’re starting off your day with clutter and distraction. ⁣

Generally speaking, your mind is a clean slate in the morning. Once you start filling it with meaningless input, your focus starts to deteriorate and your thoughts become less clear. Besides that, getting on TikTok or Instagram for “just a minute” may turn into mindless scrolling in bed for the next 30 minutes.⁣

For the first hour or so after waking, your mind is the most malleable and therefore it’s the most critical for determining how your day goes. What you do within this first hour is powerful.⁣

Instead of starting your day with anxiety from the latest news, responding to your employee about an issue, or mindlessly consuming content, what if you do things that stimulate your brain, body, and soul? ⁣

I recommend doing at least 1 thing for each of those before getting on your phone. Choose any that you want. For example: ⁣

- Reading a book to stimulate your brain. ⁣
- Going for a walk in the sun to wake up your body. ⁣
- Journaling to deepen your connection with whatever spiritual belief you have.
