Healing starts with community.

We’re partnering with Black churches, businesses and community organizations to host Sharing Hope conversations.

The discussions about mental wellness and healing in Black and African ancestry communities provide a safe space to help destigmatize mental illness, strengthen connections and promote collective care in your own community, right where it matters most.

Want to bring a Sharing Hope conversation to your organization?

Last week, NAMI Wake County was excited to join NC State’s NAMI on Campus for Glow Up for Mental Health.

The event was a fun celebration of wellness and community with music, glow-in-the-dark activities and mental health resources for students. It was inspiring to see so many students come together to raise awareness for mental health support and ending the stigma.

This weekend, NAMI Wake delivered an Ending the Silence presentation for the high school youth group at First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh.

Executive Director Mark Simon and James Osborn of Alliance Health co-presented, empowering students to recognize the signs of mental health challenges and understand the importance of seeking help when they need it.

This weekend, NAMI Wake Couty attended the NAMI North Carolina Annual Conference in Greensboro.

Many thanks to NAMI North Carolina for hosting such an inspiring and educational event! We enjoyed connecting with affiliate leaders from across the state and learning more about the innovative ways we can support mental health in our community.

We’re excited about the impact we're making in Wake County and looking forward to continuing to expand our resources as time goes on.

NAMI Wake County had a great time joining the Wake Audubon Society for a community bird walk at Lake Lynn Park on Sept. 20!

Around 23 participants gathered for a light breakfast and conversation before exploring the park to spot local birds. For many, it was their first birding experience. This is just the beginning of an exciting collaboration to promote mental wellness by providing opportunities to spend time in nature and create a sense of community.

For many in Black and African ancestry communities, opening up about mental health can be hard — but our stories and voices matter.

NAMI Wake County is seeking community members to lead Sharing Hope conversations about culture, healing, and wellness. If you identify as Black or of African ancestry and have lived experience with mental illness, your story can help others heal.

Facilitators will complete an 8-hour virtual training and volunteer with NAMI Wake to create safe spaces for connection and support in the Wake County community.

We’re still thinking about the Mighty Giveback concert from a few weeks ago!

The Band Together community came together to raise more than $1 million for mental health across the Triangle, and a portion of those funds will help NAMI Wake County expand our youth mental health initiatives.

Who We Are

NAMI Wake embraces the philosophy of recovery. According to the Surgeon General’s 2000 report, “Instead of focusing primarily on symptom relief, as the medical model dictates, recovery casts a much wider spotlight on restoration of self-esteem and identity and on attaining meaningful roles in society.”

NAMI Wake is a membership organization and an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and NAMI NC. Member dues are distributed among the three (3) levels of the organization: NAMI Wake, NAMI NC and NAMI. Each organization is a separate 501(c)(3) and engages in separate fundraising and program activities. NAMI Wake offers state-level and national NAMI programs, and develops our own services as needed.

NAMI Wake is the only organization that advocates for public policies that further the services and quality of life specifically for Wake County residents with mental illness and their families. NAMI Wake adopts those state-level and national policies, and establishes and conducts separate advocacy initiatives as needed.

NAMI Wake provides support, education, & advocacy to those affected by mental health challenges to create a community where mental health is valued. Join us in the fight to defeat stigma, provide education, and make mental health accessible for ALL in our community.
