This week, we recognize National Public Health Week and the vital role public health plays in keeping our community safe, informed, and resilient.

Public health is more than prevention—it’s the foundation that supports everything we do in emergency services. From disease surveillance and vaccination efforts to injury prevention and health education, public health professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect lives every day.

At Reading EMS, we see firsthand how strong public health systems and dedicated public health workers make a difference. Their work helps reduce emergencies, improve outcomes, and strengthen the overall well-being of our community.

We are proud to stand alongside our public health partners this week and every week. Thank you for your commitment, your expertise, and your unwavering dedication to the health and safety of those we serve.

Our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and fellow firefighters of Chief Buck and Asst. Chief Shick.

1,614 emergency calls answered in March.

Behind every number is a neighbor, a family, and a moment that mattered. Our crews showed up—day and night—to provide care when it was needed most.

Thank you to our dedicated providers and to the community we’re proud to serve.

This is NOT an April Fools joke!

We know… the timing makes it very questionable, but this one’s legit.

Mark it down now before life gets in the way:
Evening of September 11th
All day September 12th & 13th

The 2026 Reading Fire Conference is coming.

We’ll be announcing the training lineup soon, but trust us, you’re going to want to be there. Come for the training, stay for the brotherhood, and leave with more than you showed up with.

Grab your crew, clear your schedule, and stay tuned.

Comment what training you’re hoping to see. If you’re wrong this year, maybe we can schedule it for next year!

April is Autism Awareness Month ♾️

At Reading EMS, we are proud to stand in support of individuals and families across the autism spectrum.

Autism is not a single story — it’s a spectrum. It represents a wide range of strengths, challenges, personalities, and perspectives. No two individuals are the same, and that diversity is exactly what makes our community stronger.

You may notice a shift in the symbol representing autism. For many years, the puzzle piece was widely used. While it was originally intended to symbolize complexity, many self-advocates felt it suggested something was “missing.” Today, the infinity symbol — often displayed in a rainbow gradient — is embraced by much of the autism community. The infinity symbol represents the infinite diversity, value, and potential of people on the spectrum. It reflects acceptance, inclusion, and respect.

As EMS providers, we are committed to compassionate, patient-centered care for every individual we serve. That means recognizing sensory sensitivities, communication differences, and the unique needs that may arise during an emergency. Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to better care.

This month — and every month — we stand for inclusion, dignity, and acceptance for all.
