Tonight the crews at the 3rd & Court station got a pleasant surprise.

A grateful member of the community who was also a former patient fulfilled a promise he made to crews several weeks ago by dropping off dinner for everyone. He and his wife wanted to show their gratitude for all the hard work the members of our department put in everyday.

We greatly appreciate this kind gesture and the community we serve. It’s simple but it speaks volumes. Thanks again!

Today, Reading EMS is proud to celebrate Therapy Dog Appreciation Day 🐾

Sometimes the most powerful care doesn’t come from equipment or medication—it comes from a wagging tail and a gentle presence. Therapy dogs provide comfort, reduce stress, and bring a sense of calm during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Whether it’s helping a patient feel at ease, supporting families, or even giving our providers a much-needed morale boost, these incredible dogs make a lasting impact in ways that are simple, yet truly meaningful.

Thank you to all the therapy dogs and their handlers who help make our community a little brighter every day.

Have you ever spent time with a therapy dog? Let us know in the comments!

This week, we recognize National Public Health Week and the vital role public health plays in keeping our community safe, informed, and resilient.

Public health is more than prevention—it’s the foundation that supports everything we do in emergency services. From disease surveillance and vaccination efforts to injury prevention and health education, public health professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect lives every day.

At Reading EMS, we see firsthand how strong public health systems and dedicated public health workers make a difference. Their work helps reduce emergencies, improve outcomes, and strengthen the overall well-being of our community.

We are proud to stand alongside our public health partners this week and every week. Thank you for your commitment, your expertise, and your unwavering dedication to the health and safety of those we serve.

Our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and fellow firefighters of Chief Buck and Asst. Chief Shick.

1,614 emergency calls answered in March.

Behind every number is a neighbor, a family, and a moment that mattered. Our crews showed up—day and night—to provide care when it was needed most.

April is Autism Awareness Month ♾️

At Reading EMS, we are proud to stand in support of individuals and families across the autism spectrum.

Autism is not a single story — it’s a spectrum. It represents a wide range of strengths, challenges, personalities, and perspectives. No two individuals are the same, and that diversity is exactly what makes our community stronger.

You may notice a shift in the symbol representing autism. For many years, the puzzle piece was widely used. While it was originally intended to symbolize complexity, many self-advocates felt it suggested something was “missing.” Today, the infinity symbol — often displayed in a rainbow gradient — is embraced by much of the autism community. The infinity symbol represents the infinite diversity, value, and potential of people on the spectrum. It reflects acceptance, inclusion, and respect.

As EMS providers, we are committed to compassionate, patient-centered care for every individual we serve. That means recognizing sensory sensitivities, communication differences, and the unique needs that may arise during an emergency. Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to better care.

This month — and every month — we stand for inclusion, dignity, and acceptance for all.
