EMTG Academy Class 20 is well underway. Here is a glimpse of Tech Rescue Awareness Day. Several Redmond recruits shown here learned the basics of building an anchor for rope rescue operations. While a great deal of additional training is required to become a qualified rope rescue technician, even our newest firefighters have a role to play during complex rescue calls.

EMTG Class 20 visited the Washington State Fire Academy campus in North Bend for live fire training. This training exposes the recruits to actual class A fires in a controlled environment. Live fire days are grueling and exhausting, but nothing substitutes the experience of confronting the heat and limited visibility of a real fire.

The IAFF has led the fire service in recognizing PTSD and job-related stress as real injuries — and fighting for peer support, counseling, and treatment programs.
Opening in March 2017, the IAFF Center of Excellence is a 64 bed mental health treatment facility that has helped over 1,100 members to date.

There are many steps in the process of securing a career in Fire/EMS. Interviewing is a very important aspect of this process and can be intimidating to many individuals. King County Fire & EMS Agencies invite you to a free session aimed at improving interview skills with the goal of acing your Fire/EMS Service Interviews. We are offering mock interview panels and personalized feedback to individuals currently pursuing a career in Fire/EMS. Additional opportunities include information on the hiring process, best practices for interview day, networking with professional first responders, and connecting with other prospective Firefighter/EMTs. We encourage people of color, immigrants, refugees, women, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and veterans to attend and help us better represent the communities we serve.

Redmond Fire recently participated in the Future Women in EMS and Fire event hosted by Seattle Fire. This full weekend event allows participants to experience what it’s like to be a firefighter from bunking up and throwing ladders, flowing water and running chainsaws to classroom sessions where we discuss everything from ‘a day in the life’ to how to prepare and answer any questions they may have. We are proud to say this was the biggest event yet with over 40 participants and 180 applicants. This amazing event happens every 6 months, consider signing up if you want to learn about the best job there is!

The skills exercised here will optimize their response to a wide range of technical rescue emergencies involving machinery entrapments and entanglements.
