Since animals can’t talk to us, you might be wondering how to tell if your animal is in pain. Here is a list of some of the signs; however, there are many more signs that aren’t listed!

❗️Personality + Behavior Changes:
Signs could include becoming more clingy, detaching, or more irritated. They may start crying or making other noises that aren’t their normal.

❕Increased Licking + Grooming:
Animals will take care of themselves by licking the injury or sore spot, so watching what spots your animal is trying to tend to will be important to note.

❗️Gait + Posture Changes:
Just like if your leg was in pain, you would want to use it less. Animals will limp or shift their weight. You can observe this during movement or you could see more of their body on the left/right vs the other side.

❕Respiratory + Heart Rate are High:
When vitals are higher than normal, they can be experiencing a variety of things, including pain. We want their body to be using their parasympathetic nervous system (rest + digest) over their sympathetic nervous system (running from a bear). If vitals are off, it’s always important to discuss it with your veterinarian first to rule out any further complications.

❗️Shaking, Nervous, Uneasy:
When people are nervous or stressed, they’re most likely unable to sit still and try to move to stay calm. Animals do the same thing to help relieve their stress or get themselves into a more comfortable position.

If you’re noticing that your animal is experiencing any of these stresses or changes, these are reasons to get your animal checked to see if they could benefit from a chiropractic adjustment!

Chiropractors focus on the animal’s nervous system, which consists of the brain and spinal cord. We want to make sure that there is not an interference in the nervous system; otherwise, the animal’s body will not be able to function at its best. The nervous system controls how the body + organs function and respond to stress.

To remove stress in the body, animal chiropractors are able to provide specific and gentle adjustments and remove subulaxtions (misalignments) in the body. Our goal is to remove the stress (chemical, emotional, or physical) that can cause hyperactivity or hypoactivty and help the body achieve balance.

There is no way to avoid all of life stressors, but we want our animal’s body to be able to respond and adapt to their environment in an appropriate manner.

Alright, I’ve got a few things to say….

I just spent my morning at the Ogden farmers market, and saw some things that make me cringe 🥴

First of all - if you plan on walking your dog in the middle of the day on pavement or asphalt, please put summer boots on your dog’s feet! The temperatures are getting way too high. If you can’t walk around barefoot, then your dog shouldn’t be either.

Second, please DO NOT use these dog baby carriers. A dog is a biped for a reason - their spine & pelvis was designed to interact with gravity differently than ours. These carriers force all of the dog’s weight onto their pelvis - their structure just simply isn’t designed to take on that much load. Over time this can cause massive strain on the lumbar spine and increase the risk of disc injury. Not to mention these carriers don’t have the best ventilation and can also be a risk of overheating.

If you’re needing another option for your dog with health issues or difficulty walking, a stroller is a much better option.

That is all. Thanks for coming to my TED talk 🤣

I spent this weekend teaching aspiring animal chiropractors how to appropriately adjust animals. These students are spending $8000-$10,000 to become certified in animal chiropractic. This is ON TOP of the $150-350,000 they are spending on chiropractic or vet school.
I have many people ask me if their kids can shadow me as they would like to do what I do. This career is no easy task. To LEGALLY adjust animals you must first attend either vet or chiropractic school (4 years) then you are eligible to take the chiropractic course. The course is an intense 6 months of focusing on anatomy, neurology, palpation, appropriate adjusting technique, and recognizing when a problem is not chiropractic. You must pass multiple tests, including an extremely intimidating AVCA exam. .
Anyone can pretend they know what they are doing, but make sure you research who you are paying to adjust your horses. AVCA certified doctors have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours ensuring we are truly helping your animal.

Atlas is currently accepting new ANIMAL patients! 🙌🏽

We want to make the process as easy as possible for you + your veterinarian + your furry friend(s)! 🐶🐈🐴🐄🐖🐓

We’ve put together a list of steps, so you can get your animal living its best life! 💕 Please go to www.atlasanimalfamilychiro.com to find all of the paperwork under the ‘Animal Chiropractic’ tab!

1️⃣ Step 1: Talk to your vet about signing a veterinary referral form! They will be able to approve the request and sign the online form! OR better yet, contact our practice with your veterinarian’s name and contact information, and we will send the referral over to them for you! 👩‍⚕️ 👨‍⚕️

2️⃣ Step 2: Complete the intake paperwork for your animal that can also be found on the website! This will allow me to see where your animal is at and how our practice can best serve your animal! 📝

3️⃣ Step 3: Once the vet referral form and intake paperwork is turned in, Atlas will be able to review all the forms! ✔️

4️⃣ Step 4: Atlas will set up a time to get your animal seen for an exam and their first adjustment with the practice! ⏰

If you have any further questions, please call or text us at 715-500-4248! 📞 There is also a list of frequently asked questions on the website (www.atlasanimalfamilychiro.com)!

We look forward to meeting you and your animal(s)! ☺️
