How long to feed a product? 30, 60, 90 days?
Most herbs begin interacting with the digestive system and bloodstream within hours, but the deeper, cellularβlevel effects take longer because they depend on metabolism, circulation, and tissue turnover.
βEarly Effects: 1β3 Days
Youβll notice some behavior changes, improved comfort, higher appetite, etc.
βSystemic Support: 2β4 Weeks
As the herbs are fed consistently, their compounds circulate more steadily through the bloodstream.
This is when the body begins using them to support deeper processes such as:
β’ normal tissue repair
β’ mucosal protection
β’ inflammatory balance
Many people will notice visible improvements in this time period because the horseβs internal systems are responding more fully. But, that does not mean they are healed at the deepest level and ready to come off of them. Taking them off too early will make you have to restart the whole process again, or make it seem as if it didnβt actually work.
βCellular-Level Support: 6β12+ Weeks minimum
Reaching the βcellular levelβ simply means the body has had enough time to incorporate the nutrients and plant compounds into ongoing tissue renewal. Horses naturally are going to replace cells in the stomach and gut over several weeks, so this is when herbs can start to support
β’ stronger, healthier mucosal tissue
β’ improved resilience
β’ longβterm digestive stability
πΏ Once a day or twice a day β whatβs better when feeding herbs?
When it comes to herbal support, twiceβdaily feeding is usually the most beneficial. Why? Because horses have a fast digestive system, and herbal compounds donβt stay at peak levels in the body all day from a single serving.
Feeding herbs morning + night helps:
β¨ Keep support steady throughout the day
β¨ Improve absorption
β¨ Match the horseβs natural grazing rhythm
β¨ Support gut comfort more consistently
But, onceβaβday feeding can still help, especially for maintenance. Consistency is truly what matters more than anything. Many people, including my own self, can feed most horses just once a day and get the full benefit they are looking for from that. If you are noticing some improvement, but not as much as youβd like, this is when we recommend splitting the dosing to twice a day, or even double dosing twice a day the first couple of weeks.
π± Twice a day = more stable support for chronic/severe problems
π± Once a day = still beneficial, especially for upkeep/more minor issues
