Alliance on Underage Drinking

Alliance on Underage Drinking The Alliance on Underage Drinking's goal is to reduce the incidence and impact of underage and dangerous drinking through community awareness and mobilization.

ALOUD represents a collaborative effort that is based on the simple premise that local people are in the best position to solve specific local problems. People are more likely to support what they help create and change is most likely to occur when the process engages many sectors of a community in a collaborative approach. Want to get involved? Contact Justin Mazzeo, Coalition Coordinator at 214-522-8600 x256 or jmazzeo@dallascouncil.org. ALOUD is comprised of representatives from schools, universities, health care providers, business, law enforcement, faith based community, youth, families, youth services, media, government and social services. These coalition members work together and use evidence-based environmental strategies aimed at population-level change that seek to 1) limit youth access to alcohol, 2) change the culture and contexts within which decisions about alcohol use are made, and 3) reduce the prevalence of negative consquences associated with high-risk drinking.

From our coalition coordinator, June Deibel: "Josh is one of my 'whys' - one of the main reasons I get up every day to work in prevention. He was one of my daughter's closest friends and we feel his loss in so many ways. If I can build awareness of the risks of prescription drug use/misuse and effect a change in our community, then I will be doing that in his memory along with others that have also struggled and lost their battles with addiction. I will continue to remember Josh with fondness and share his story of life and purpose."

Addiction is a brain disease. It’s not a choice, and it’s not a weakness. Drugs can change how the brain works, and those changes can last for a long time.
