Behind every pattern you want to change is a belief.

These beliefs, which are often formed early in life, can sound like:

“My worth depends on what I do”

“Rest has to be earned”

“If I don’t do things perfectly, I won’t get love or approval”

“I can’t trust myself”

Beliefs are behind your patterns - and if you’re feeling stuck in overwhelm, stress, burnout, self-doubt, people-pleasing and more, there’s some hidden beliefs that are likely pushing you to overextend, overachieve, overcommit, overthink and more.

If you want to change a pattern, it’s critical to heal the beliefs behind it.

Did you know the idea of going to therapy was once considered by society to be pretty weird?

This comes up sometimes when working with clients. The moment we label something as “weird,” we place it outside the circle of things worth considering. It becomes something to laugh at, dismiss or avoid. But what if by doing so, you’re closing the door on ideas or practices that could genuinely help you?

“Weird” doesn’t have to mean bad or wrong or ineffective. It just means unfamiliar.

Many ideas and practices throughout history were once considered weird that are now beneficial and commonplace simply because people eventually moved past the label and gave them a chance!

Instead of automatically labeling something “weird,” try being curious and compassionate to yourself by asking some good questions about it:

Why do some people find this helpful?
What problem is it trying to solve?
Is there any evidence it works?
Would it be worth trying at least once?

Here’s to embracing more “weird!”

What’s one thing you thought was totally weird that you now feel differently about and maybe even love?

So many people who deal with overwhelm get stuck in vicious cycles which go something like this:

Get stressed and overwhelmed by something…⬇️

Can’t think clearly, make poor decisions or just decide not to deal at all and instead distract and procrastinate…⬇️

Feel even worse afterwards, now wracked with guilt, shame, feelings of inadequacy and even more stress to deal with!🙈

How do you break the cycle?

It’s not about eliminating what’s causing you stress. Yes that can help but in many cases it may not be fully possible.

The way out starts with increasing your capacity to move through stress without collapsing into overwhelm. It starts with tuning into the body and nervous system and shifting what’s going on there.

The stress will be here - it is a part of life. But your internal capacity and threshold can grow and your reactions can change. This is what I love to help clients with because I have been there and know how it feels.

If you’re tired of the vicious cycle, DM HEAL for a free consult call to see if working together is a good fit for you!

The scariest part of overwhelm and burnout is not the exhaustion itself but the feelings of numbness, disconnection and hopelessness that accompany it.

But you can heal!✨

Overwhelm and burnout are signals from the body - they are signs that the body is in need of attention and support.

When you work with the nervous system and give it what it needs, your capacity for handling the stresses of life can increase. Healing occurs not because you pushed yourself to do and handle more but because your nervous system is supported.

Follow along if you’re navigating overwhelm, burnout, guilt, shame, emotional exhaustion and more
