Not all diagnoses mean you need to stop running 👇
We frequently work with runners who have been advised, based on imaging scans, that findings like early arthritis, degenerative disc disease, or joint “wear and tear” mean they should stop running or consider surgery.
However, clinical research show:
👉 Imaging findings do not always correlate with pain or function.
Many of these diagnoses are common, age-related changes and may not be the source of your symptoms or any symptoms at all. We often see runners with these findings who are able to run without pain or limitation or get them there.
At our clinic, we prioritize a movement-based, conservative approach before considering invasive options:
✔️ Comprehensive assessment of your movement patterns✔️ Identification of strength, mobility, and load management needs✔️ Individualized plan to support continued running safely
If you are running without pain, there is often no clinical reason to stop. Decisions about your care should be guided not just by imaging, but by how your body performs and responds to movement.
