Happy (belated) International Women's Day! We join in celebrating women all over the world. Women are some of the most resilient against all odds, even as it becomes demanding when you become a mother. You are strong, loved, beautiful, and worthy.

When my mind is racing, filled with fears, can't sleep or catch a breath, this breathing technique is a quick tool that has helped me calm my mind to be able to think through whatever's happening in that moment, if anything at all.

Give it a try and drop a comment if you found it helpful!

The narrative I heard about pregnancy and having babies is "pregnancy is beautiful and glowing, you have a magical birth that may be tough, then you live happily ever after with your baby." Fast forward almost 6 years after having my first and I don't remember what I looked like before, what I used to do/like, or how much room I actually used to have in my house/shelves/fridge🤔.

What I wish I knew before pregnancy is how different my body will be and how to love and embrace my new self.

Hi fellow moms, parents, everyone! I know we haven't been as active on this page. Since the shutdowns, our original group that met every month had to cease all meetings. While we were hopeful the shut down would end as soon as it started, it didn't. There are no immediate plans for the group to return at the moment, though we miss connecting with other moms so much. We anticipate changes occurring within the group as time progresses.

While the group remains inactive for now, the podcast that stemmed from this group, "A Mother's Story", is coming back for more episodes after a longer-than-expected hiatus. I'm the host, Telly, and I've interviewed guests about their experience with a variety of issues surrounding parenthood, pregnancy and mental health. I'm ALWAYS looking for brave individuals to share their experience and/or expertise on anything surrounding motherhood, parenthood, and mental health. When I was deep in postpartum depression and anxiety, hearing others' stories helped me relate and break that barrier of isolation. My story is one of the first on the podcast channel, if you want to check it out.

Also, if you or someone you know is struggling with a mental health issue and need resources, please reach out! I have compiled a list of resources that will be posted as soon as it's ready.

Appreciate your love and support, as always, and remember that you're deserving of love

Who We Are

Motherhood in the Raw was founded by two moms that experienced a hard postpartum journey. They didn’t learn about what postpartum mental illness could look like until they were deep in it--which is a hard place to find healing and help.

Virtual Meetings: Third Thursday of every month, 8:30-10pm via Cisco WebEx - In the meetings, we have experts in their field share their knowledge about how to help moms cope and manage in different areas of their lives, whether it’s making meals easier, managing family finances, managing mental health, and many more. Virtual Open Talk Support Group: First Thursday of every month, 8:30-10pm via Cisco Webex - During Open Talk, we have open and honest conversations about the struggles of parenthood as it relates to you. We provide support in ways that we can, allow you vent, and help you know you’re not alone. Sometimes the best medicine is just getting the stress off your chest!

Their goal is to help moms battling a Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) to feel less alone in their journey. They strive to educate, provide resources, and create a community of moms to lessen the stigma of PMAD, therapy, and mental illness in general. Even without a clinically diagnosed PMAD, motherhood is hard all the same. Motherhood in the Raw wants to help ALL moms that are struggling, having a hard transition, or need extra guidance and support in the postpartum period.

Being a mom is rewarding, difficult, challenging, beautiful, and full of love. To be a good mom starts with being good to yourself and loving yourself. You’ll spread that love into your children, and that doesn’t mean doing it alone--it means having a village to help you along the way.
