Thanks to the vision of the Riverhead Hospital Association, formed by Henry R. Talmage, farmer, Reginald C. Smith, attorney, and Rev. Charles Mclean, we opened our doors on February 3rd, 1951. Recognizing an incredible need, the greater Riverhead community had come together to raise $425,000 to build a hospital. For the first time, they had the care they needed, close to home.

For 75 years, we’ve been providing extraordinary care and growing to meet our community’s needs. Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts first launched by our Auxiliary team in 1953, we’ve experienced a level of support we never could have imagined, allowing us to bring the best in technology, facilities, and talent to Eastern Suffolk County. What began as a 58-bed community hospital is now a world-class facility and part of New York's most awarded health system.

Thank you for trusting us throughout the years to deliver your care and to care for those in your life who matter most.

Every second counted. Our team saved Baby Nicolai.

Born with his cord wrapped around his neck, PBMC specialists immediately provided life-saving care: chest compressions, oxygen, and constant monitoring. Nicolai was stable but then had to be transferred to a distant NICU. The new Emilie Roy Corey Center for Women and Infants (opening 2027) changes that! Like baby Nicolai - 35-40% of our deliveries need specialized care. With a Level 2 NICU at PBMC, we can keep families united and continue to provide expert care where it's needed most.

As 2025 comes to a close, we are celebrating a year of healthcare advancements for Eastern Suffolk County! These three major accomplishments have helped elevate care for our entire community:
1️⃣ Beginning construction of the Bill and Ruth Ann Harnisch Neurosciences Center

2️⃣ Opening the Daniella Maria Arturi Pediatric Room in our recently expanded emergency department

3️⃣ Raising $175,000 at the Northwell Health Walk at East End to support the Emilie Roy Corey Center for Women and Infants and our breast health programs, thanks to our staff and community

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our extraordinary team and your individual support. Together, we are expanding access, improving outcomes, and building a healthier future!

Ten years ago, an incredible change began at Peconic Bay Medical Center in one simple moment. A patient shared that, for years, his adult daughter helped him with everything from doctor’s appointments to scheduling his home repairs. But now, when he was facing a terminal diagnosis and needed care more than ever, the only thing he wanted was to take care of his daughter.

This family’s story is familiar to many across our community. That’s why PBMC created the Caregivers Center: programming and a physical space dedicated to the specific needs of family caregivers.

November is Family Caregivers Month, and we want to celebrate by honoring the people who uplift their family members through every step of the health journey. We invite you to join us by making a gift: https://pbmcfoundation.thankyou4caring.org/pages/november-appeal---email
