Melissa Spicer - Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Melissa Spicer - Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Specializing in working with female first responders/healthcare professionals and LEOWs. Life can be difficult and it takes courage to ask for help.

I am here to help and am privileged to walk alongside you on your journey. “Melissa is excellent! I came to her for ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), something I had never tried before, and she made the entire process simple and understandable. With a handful of sessions, I managed to resolve issues that regularly brought me back to talk therapy in the past, and the effects were almost immediate. Melissa was great in walking me through the process and providing resources to help understand how the technique works and what happens in the brain while doing ART. It was remarkable to see the progress made through this technique versus traditional talk therapy sessions. I can't say enough about how well ART worked for me, and I would recommend anyone interested in learning more to reach out to Melissa."

Today we honor the courage and sacrifice of our veterans. Your strength doesn’t end with your service, it continues in your healing, your growth, and your stories. Reaching out for support takes courage too, and you deserve care and community every step of the way. 🇺🇸💙

💙 My heart is heavy hearing of Officer Pete Zajac’s passing. He served his community with dedication, compassion, and heart — and his loss is felt deeply across the law enforcement family.

To my brothers and sisters in blue: please take care of yourselves and one another. Grief like this can feel unbearable, but you are not alone. Talk. Reach out. Let someone in. Your pain matters, and help is out there.

Rest easy, Officer Zajac. Your impact and kindness will never be forgotten. 💙

UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 30 9:20 am
As many have been asking how to help, a GoFundMe has been set up for Officer Zajac's family at https://gofund.me/b041fdf7c.

Farmington community,

I’m writing to share some tragic and sad news. Late last night, Officer Pete Zajac took his life. Officer Zajac was a well-respected fifteen-year veteran of the Farmington Police Department, and is survived by his wife and three children. Officer Zajac spent the past two years serving as the School Resource Officer within the Farmington school district. Our entire police department family is in mourning and our hearts go out to his entire family. His presence within our department and our community as a whole will be missed. A sincere thank you to our law enforcement partners, and those in the community who have surrounded us in our time of need and those that will support us in the tough times ahead.

Today, my heart is with Minneapolis. It’s with the families impacted by this unthinkable tragedy, and with the police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and medical teams who ran toward chaos to bring safety and care.

A space meant for joy and community - a church mass celebrating children’s return to school - was shattered by senseless violence. Events like this leave deep wounds, not just on those directly involved, but on entire communities, and especially on the first responders who witness the unimaginable while continuing to serve.

To the families whose lives will never be the same, my thoughts and prayers are with you. To the children who faced fear in a place that should have felt safe, may you find comfort and healing. And to every first responder who answered the call today — you are seen, you are valued, and your courage matters more than words can express.

Please remember: You don’t have to carry this alone. Trauma takes its toll, and reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. If you’re struggling in the aftermath of today’s events — whether you were on the scene or feeling the ripple effects — I’m here, and there are resources to help you through.

This weekend, take a moment to find the good! Whether it’s a moment you take to get outside, or spending time with people you love, helping someone in need, or just taking a deep breath and being present this weekend. ❤️

Good is out there… sometimes in big moments, sometimes in the quiet or small ones. Go find yours.

Today, we made a difference. Today, we saved a life.

Because one of our nation’s veterans had a safe place to turn—our Support Center—they were able to take their first step towards healing with our staff by their side.

This is exactly why the Invisible Wounds Project exists. To stand in the gap. To be a light in the darkness. To let every veteran, first responder, and family member know: you are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. We are here. And we will keep showing up.

Great podcast for my clients who are currently in medical school or aspiring to be in the medical sciences. I specifically like the emphasis on mental health.

We are excited to share a new student led podcast, Life as a Student, that was started by 2nd year DPT student Nick Winder. Nick developed the podcast because he wanted to connect with students from other programs at Mayo Clinic. He was interested in hearing their perspective and do a project that would bring people together and a podcast discussion would be an accessible and really fun way to do that!

The pilot episode is out now on Spotify and is about the challenges faced by students in healthcare training, including academic pressure, financial stress, and burnout. The student guests Mary Lang (MD student), Caroline Gearin (PA student), and myself (Nick Winder PT student) share our experiences and insights into student life at the Mayo Clinic.

We look forward to bringing you more episodes! https://spoti.fi/3ZxxFpw

💬 New on the Blog
If you're partnered with someone in law enforcement, you already know the emotional weight that can come with that role. You're the steady one. The listener. The one holding it all together—even when you're running on empty.

In my latest blog post, I talk about how cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can offer real, practical support for LEO spouses who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected. This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about helping you feel like you again.

If you’ve been thinking, “Something’s got to give,” this might be the next right step.

You don’t have to keep carrying this alone.

Cognitive behavioral therapy offers practical relief for law enforcement wives coping with anxiety, emotional fatigue, and relationship stress. Melissa, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, shares how CBT supports law enforcement spouses' mental health.

I’ve been talking a lot about the skill of “Radical Acceptance” with some of my clients over the past few weeks. I thought this little graphic summarize the concept beautifully! Have you ever heard of Radical Acceptance before?
