Today is World Cancer Day. According to Cancer Statistics of 2025, about 20 million people are diagnosed with some form of cancer.

There are many things we can do to prevent cancer and what we eat plays a role.

We know focusing on a variety of vegetables and fruits especially berries and cruciferous vegetables which contain antioxidants and polyphenols along with whole grains, beans, and other plant foods may help lower the risk for cancers.

Limiting/avoiding animal products especially processed meats, which is known as a class 1 carcinogen by the IRAC, is recommended to prevent cancer.

Book an appointment with a plant based dietitian to learn how you can eat and enjoy more plant foods to prevent cancer now.

Why I promote a plant-forward approach to most of my clients that live in NY and NOT the Mediterranean diet as a Plant Based Registered Dietitian in NYS.

Currently I work with patients locally that live in Upstate NY. They often tell me that they cannot afford to buy wild caught fish or it doesn't taste good because it has been frozen and shipped. It is not caught local. The other alternative is farm raised fish which is expensive and some do not agree with the environment it was raised in even if it tastes better than wild caught.

So how are my local clients in NYS supposed to eat a Mediterranean diet if they are not fisherman? Isn't fish a main staple of this eating pattern?

Please make it make sense. 🙃

Dietary recommendations should also consider what foods people have readily ACCESS to locally and financially. We should also consider the environmental impact of food because this also dictates people's food choices.

Therefore, please just eat more PLANTS 🌱 and WHOLE FOODS! 🥰

If you are local, hope to see you there!

Dietitian Tip Thursday: Make healthy eating fun!

Today I had a client tell me that the biggest change that has helped her with developing healthier habits is changing her mindset from "I should" eat healthy to making healthy eating fun! By getting your significant other and/or kids involved in meal planning and cooking, trying new recipes together, and getting active together, you can make healthy habits fun too!

You’re staring at your plate wondering why this diet feels like another failure.

It’s not you. It’s not your fault you weren’t taught HOW to eat properly for your body.

You grew up in a household with a mother who always dieted to look thin. You were told to clean your plate.

You were never taught or saw what healthy eating or a good relationship with food or your body looks like.

Think about how it would feel to not obsess over the number on the scale, to stress about what to eat or stress eat.

As a plant based Registered Dietitian and nutrition coach, I help clients to adopt a whole food plant based eating pattern and adopt mindful eating principles as a lifestyle change to have more energy and lose weight AND keep it off.

If that sounds like you, comment “plants” below 👇 and I’ll send you a free resource to get started on your plant based journey today!

As a Registered Dietitian that works with weight loss clients and I say this with so much love, if you are struggling with weight loss, please DO NOT weigh yourself more than once a week.

Thanks,
Your favorite plant-based dietitian ❤️🌱
