My passion for art, design, and quilting began as a teenager alongside my grandmother. I loved watching her magically transform yards of fabric into clothing. I humbly asked her one day to show me how to sew, and she was delighted to take me under her wing. After I gained confidence with the basics, I applied my skills to quilting by making my first quilt. She loved the idea, and we began making quilts and quilting together. I continued quilting while attending graphic design classes, and after earning a BFA, I opened a studio to design print and digital artwork for clients. I became pregnant, and I knew I had to make a custom quilt for the newborn that was about to enter and transform my life. I discovered how my graphic design training and experience strengthened my quilt-making skills. What joy I got from combining these two creative skills! While I was raising my son full-time, I brought it all together and began designing and making original modern quilts to sell. After a traumatic life event, I began my journey by walking through the fire to recover from the trauma. I discovered and pursued my passion for helping others heal their trauma, and I went back to school to become a licensed therapist. While parenting, healing, learning, training, working, and quilting at the same time, it all came together in such beautiful harmony, revealing how creativity and mental health can create an amazing and unexpected synergy. Exercising the amazing connection between our emotions and the use of color, design, and art is a profoundly fulfilling experience that I now share with others on their healing journey.

I dove recklessly into authenticity in my post about the quilt “In The Clouds,” which features the creative process behind its construction.

The rainbow means so many different things to me, and this wall hanging offered an opportunity to process the specifics. It is easy to connect my art with the use of bright colors, and it goes deeper than that. 🌈

Rainbows are used symbolically in the mental health world to represent different things, many of which resonate with me and connect to existing passions.

It's just who I am: a technically-minded therapist as chill as the clouds in the sky.

A reminder of the most important things in life can be seen in the smallest moments everyday. Raising a happy and healthy son who feels confident to express authenticity is a top priority. Today, I recognized a huge leap in growth for him, both on a mental health level and a physical level.

On a summer say when sunlight and blue sky are fighting for real estate and shade from a fence post is better than nothing, it may be best to move as little as possible. So, naturally, I found myself watching my son be his amazing self at a skatepark, testing his abilities on a halfpipe. As we both found ourselves dripping in sweat, I realized how lucky we are, how far he has come, and how much he has grown.

Sometimes the most uncomfortable moments can offer the most joy. Maybe it’s a matter of contrast, or maybe the absence of comfort forces a pause, and you look around to see where you are. In a world that moves so fast, pausing can lead to FOMO, but it is important to go with the flow and trust the timing of the universe.

Shame is heavy and offers an amazing opportunity for growth. In fact, shame is a symptom of a lesson waiting to be learned.

Helping someone through strong feelings of shame today was a great way to validate them by reinforcing that shame is the lack of meeting someone else’s perceived approval. Ideals, expectations, and opinions that are pushed onto us by others get in the way of authentic living.

Self-love, confidence, and walking away from toxic relationships all come together when healing the source of our shame. Being ashamed of a past decision is simply deep knowledge that we can improve ourselves any time.

We just never know what will be underneath after untangling the knot.

Quilting is my air

I’ve never been one to follow the crowd. This comes through in my quilt design. I enjoy artfully crafting modern-style hand made quilts, which are all unique and one-of-a-kind designs, and often feature bold color combinations. Pairing this with experienced craftsmanship results in something very special. Everything that comes out of my studio is hand quilted. Really. My other passion is custom memory quilts, and I’d love to hear from you and explore how we can create the perfect keepsake to cherish. The more I know about the clothing that you would like in the quilt, the more personal I can make it. You can use infant/baby clothes, race shirts, sports uniforms, memorial clothing from a loved one, dance outfits... just about anything.
