Brooks McFarland of Compassionate Care Services joined Dr. Shawn and Piet on Rog’s Corner this morning to share in a conversation about caring for the caregiver.

In this episode, Dr. Shawn reminded listeners who are caregivers of those with mental health struggles to first identify themselves as holding this role. She spoke about three points: 1.) Prepare-gain awareness and use healthy communication; 2.) Learn-gain skills, engage in counseling to better understand and receive tools, and attend NAMI; 3.) Sustain-check on oneself that you’re eating nutritiously, staying hydrated, exercising, enjoying other meaningful relationships, and using boundaries.

Dr. Shawn spoke about using your ‘greater village’ which segued into Brooks sharing some of the many ways Compassionate Care Services can help the caregiver, so they may have respite and assistance.

Thanks, Brooks, for informing the Rog’s Corner audience of your Compassionate Care Services, and we look forward to you joining us again next week.

Listen to this second of a two-part series on child loss, as Dr. Shawn talks with guest, Amy Maassen, about her dear son Walker.

This episode reflects perspective through the lens of grief, education about the nature of grief in children, and the value of presence for grievers.
Amy also shares about the meaningful child loss support group which she and her husband began.

We, again, are grateful to Amy for courageously sharing her family’s story, as well as providing information and understanding for the listeners of Rog’s Corner.

Tune into Rog’s Corner each Tuesday morning at KSOU 93.9 FM, following Swap.

Amy Maassen, whose 20-month-old son, Walker, passed away in 2023, returned to Rog's Corner this morning and offered advice for others who may also be experiencing such a tragic loss.
