EMDR X 2!

What does this heading mean?

It means that Creative Living Center is proud to share that we now have TWO of our licensed therapists who are trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Bethany De Ruyter, LMSW, on right, joins Shannon Van Maanen, LISW, on left, as trained and available to assist clients with this structured form of evidence-based brain therapy. 📞712-476-5245 or 📧info@creativelivingcenterpc.com

How does it work?

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to promote the brain's natural healing, much like what happens in REM sleep. It takes past experiences and updates them with present information. The EMDR approach believes that past, emotionally charged experiences are overly influencing present emotions, sensations, and thoughts about oneself. EMDR uses a set of procedures to organize negative and positive feelings and thoughts, then introducing bilateral visual, auditory, and/or tactile stimulation for healing.

Who does it help?

EMDR assists individuals who are struggling with trauma. It's also effective for treating a variety of other mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and phobias.

If this sounds like a form of therapy from which you could benefit, Bethany and Shannon are available to help you.

Privileged to have been a part of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Northwest Iowa event on Tuesday evening, April 7, at the Sioux Center Public Library. It was a warm and welcoming atmosphere with people who care greatly about helping those around them.

The presentation by Dr. Shawn was entitled "Creatively Compassionate Self-Care and Caregiver Care" and it was wonderful to have Brooks McFarland of Compassionate Care Services speak about his organization and the physical/household/transportation services they provide as Creative Living Center's mental health and outreach services were highlighted.

At Creative Living Center, we care about your mental health needs and seek to provide compassionate counseling, education, and outreach. Contact us anytime to learn more about how we can serve you and loved ones.
