Life can be really tough some days. After the tough days, I like to look back on them and ask myself some questions about what I can do to change the circumstances so I have more good days. I do this with the help of my friends, family and my wonderful counselor. If you need someone to talk to about your tough days, just shoot me an email. Available in Texas and Wisconsin.

Many people today are struggling with the political environment and the changes happening multiple times per day that impact quite a few people. If you are one of those, here are some things to consider.

1. Control what you can-there are only certain things we have control of, by working on those you can feel that you are still living and surviving. If you can donate to a cause that is meaningful to you, then do so. If you can protest, then do so. But if you can't, control what you can.

2. Look for the good and for hope where you can find it. It isn't always easy to locate, but it is worth seeing that there is some. Although most of the sky may be falling, it isn't all falling.

3. Take a break when you need to, turn off social media or the news, take a nap, do something you enjoy.

4. Talk to someone-a therapist, a good friend, support group, etc..., sometimes you need help to get through. I'm seeing my own therapist right now too.

Much love to you all,
Susan

Here's a really good list of coping skills to help you feel better when you aren't feeling your best: https://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/JournalPages/99-Coping-Skills-Poster.pdf

With a list like this, you don't have to treat it like a "to do", more like a pick and choose like produce at a grocery story or candy on the candy aisle.

If you find that you are having a tough time lately, you are not alone. Many people are feeling that way too. A wise person once told me that when you don't know what to do, you do the next healthy thing. So while we are waiting, and managing our fear, we can do lots of good and healthy things. How do we manage our fear? We remind ourselves that anxiety over things that haven't happened yet is normal, and we should use that as an opportunity to plan for the worst. But we also stay grounded, speak up as we are able to do so, support the causes we believe in and mainly LIVE. Live your life!
