UCLA engineers and physicians have successfully completed the world's first human clinical trial of robotic-assisted cataract surgery. This procedure, reported by the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering on December 3, marks an advance in the field of ophthalmic surgical robot technology. With cataract surgeries being one of the most common procedures globally, at a rate of 26 million per year, the introduction of robotic assistance could change the way cataract surgeries are performed to target precision and patient outcomes, the investigators suggested. https://www.ormanager.com/briefs/worlds-first-robotic-assisted-cataract-surgery-performed/

Ketamine tested for pain relief in a large, placebo-controlled, randomized trial posed side effects and did not support patient recovery after major surgery, according to findings published in the British Journal of Anesthesia and discussed in a December 3 news story from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A recent multicenter randomized trial has revealed that needle arthroscopy significantly reduced postoperative pain and opioid use compared to standard arthroscopy for patients undergoing isolated partial meniscectomy.
