I became a first-time manager of a 24/7 department at 28 years old. It was NOT an easy transition. Before you step into a manager role here are some questions to definitely think about:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

✨Do you prefer leading teams or leading projects?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Literal photo of my office door on the last day of my first-time manager role! Here are some tips to get your foot into the door: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1️⃣Read the mission statement of the top 3-5 companies you’d want to work for and truly decide in your heart that the vision and beliefs align with who you are and who you want to be. Feeling drawn towards a mission will help you stick it out during the long and tough job application process. Trust me, when you start applying you WILL get ghosted and rejected, so brace for it. But if you’re committed to the mission of the organization, it won’t stop you from getting to where you want to go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ Sign up for the automatic job postings on the career page so you can immediately get notified when a new posting goes live. Literally stalk that career page like it is your ex boyfriends new girlfriend! Read all the postings and familiarize yourself with the basic qualifications. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ Find a contact who may work in that organization and do an informational interview to learn more and see if they know people in their network they can introduce you to! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣ If financially able, apply for an internship. Start with entry level positions you qualify for and work your way in and up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

5️⃣ Update that resume and be honest with your skills. Yes, while I KNOW you can kill it at that leadership role, you do need some experience under your belt. What part of your resume is lacking, where can you get that experience in your CURRENT role? Can you stretch yourself in a school or volunteer project? Can you get certified or take some extra courses to be more qualified? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
