For more than 80 years, Atrium Health Floyd has been proud to care for the residents of Chattooga County, building long-standing relationships and making continued investments that support access to care, prevention and overall community well-being.

Today, we serve as the EMS provider for Chattooga County and deliver emergency care through our stand-alone emergency department, a significant investment that ensures 24-hour emergency services close to home. We also provide primary care, urgent care and rehabilitation services, supporting the health of our community at every stage of life.

In recognition of this commitment, Atrium Health Floyd was honored to receive the 2025 Wellness Business of the Year award from the 2026 Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce. đź’™

We are proud to partner with Chattooga County and grateful for the relationships that make this community a place we are honored to serve. It was an honor to come together for the Flagpole Dedication Ceremony at the Atrium Health Floyd freestanding emergency department.

Thank you to VFW Post 6688 and the Scout leaders and Scouts from Chattooga County Scouting America Troop 7 for their role in the ceremony and for their continued service to this community.

We also sincerely thank the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce, our community partners and everyone who joined us for this event.

We are especially proud to provide care and work alongside our local first responders, including fire, law enforcement, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS. Your dedication and partnership help keep Chattooga County safe every day, and we are honored to serve alongside you.

The Atrium Health Floyd Chattooga Emergency Department reflects a longstanding commitment to this community. Atrium Health Floyd has served the health and wellness needs of Chattooga County residents for more than 80 years, with care dating back to 1942. A major milestone was the opening of the standalone emergency department in September 2023, providing 24/7 emergency care and advanced diagnostics, along with Atrium Health Floyd’s assumption of Chattooga County EMS in 2022 and more than $1 million invested in ambulances, station improvements and lifesaving equipment.

We are proud to be a trusted partner and to serve alongside those who care for and protect this community.

When Dale suddenly struggled to breathe after fishing with his grandkids, he had no idea that moment would change the future of his entire family. What started as shortness of breath quickly led to a discovery.

After an echocardiogram and an urgent referral to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, Dale learned his heart wasn’t pumping properly, causing dangerous fluid buildup. Overnight at the hospital, he lost 15 pounds of fluid. At the same time, his father Larry was having episodes of racing heartbeat and breathlessness. Their shared Harbin Clinic cardiologist, Dr. Charlie Baggett, suspected something deeper, a genetic link.

A simple blood test confirmed it. Both father and son carried TTN, a genetic mutation connected to serious heart rhythm issues. But the story didn’t end there.

Dr. Baggett urged the family to continue testing. One by one, more relatives tested positive. For those living far away, test kits were mailed to Colorado and Alaska and sent back. More positive results followed.

What could have gone unnoticed for generations was finally visible and treatable.

“It’s such a simple test,” said Dale, “You don’t have to stay in the hospital, and it isn’t painful. It’s worth being able to get the preventative care we need. My youngest brother has the gene, but there are no signs yet that he is having trouble. But the heart team already knows, and they are helping prevent tragedy where we might not have put two and two together.”

Now, with coordinated care from Atrium Health Floyd, Harbin Clinic cardiologists, the heart failure clinic and remote monitoring specialists, the Clements family has a clear path forward.

“We can’t know the past,” Larry said, “but we can protect the future.”

Today, Dale and Larry are doing well and encouraging others not to wait when genetic testing is recommended.

“Trust your doctors,” Dale said. “If they say it might help, don't wait. This changed our family for generations to come.”

Grant, a physical therapist assistant at Atrium Health Floyd, is the newest BEE Award recipient. He was nominated by his teammates for his positive attitude and his consistent willingness to lend a helping hand.

His passion for health care is rooted in personal experience. After sustaining several sports-related injuries growing up, Grant saw firsthand how impactful physical therapy could be—an experience that ultimately inspired him to pursue it as a career. “Physical therapy helped me a lot, so I just kind of wanted to do the same with my career,” he said.

He’s passionate about helping his patients get back on their feet. “It's very rewarding to see them starting to get back to their normal daily lives and to see their families' reactions as the patient progresses to something that they haven't done in a while,” he said.

“I know these patients are in very vulnerable situations, and I just try and be as empathetic as I can, but also at the same time, I try and push them to get better as quickly as possible. I try and paint a good picture for them and just motivate him as much as possible.”

He also believes that teamwork is important for the best outcome for the patients he sees. “You can't have great patient care without a good team. So, I definitely wouldn't be able to do what I do without the nurses that nominated me, so I'm very thankful to them,” Grant said.
