Reset status: one week completed

Food: I’ve kept my choices mostly low carb/keto. I did have some watermelon. And today, I totally spaced and ate half a dozen Chili’s tortilla chips. 15 minutes later it hit me. 🤦‍♀️

Exercise: 2nd workout.
Tuesday (I think) I walked/ran about 1 ½ miles
Friday (today) I walked/tan 1 mile.
Attempted elliptical—still can’t do it

Weight: Down about 2 ½ pounds

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. I haven’t hidden my weight gain, but I haven’t talked about it much. I’m starting over. Today is day 2.

My story....
Short version:
Starting weight 306 (2013)
Keto starting weight 250 (2017)
Lowest weight 163 (2018)
Current weigh 261 (2020)

The long version:

I was 175 pounds when I got married at 17. By the time I graduated college at 23, I was about 250. I remained about that weight—give or take 40 pounds—until age 43. Never got below 220. Then my brother almost died. I promised my family I would make changes. I started walking—then running (at 43!!) and Zumba. I was the only one in my family making changes, but they supported me. I did well, but I couldn’t keep up the time I was spending at the gym. I maintained 60 of the 80 pounds I lost. A few years later we (husband and I) started keto. He needed to lose weight to get a new knee. We did it together. We each lost a total of almost 150 pounds. He got the new knee. I ran a half marathon. And then the bottom dropped out. Over the past 2 years we’ve both gained back most of the weight. This time, our kids are making changes with us (may not be strict keto for them, but at least low carb).

I know what to do. I just need to do it.

My biggest fear when I started was that I would be one of “those people” who lose a bunch of weight and then gain it back. And here I am.

2013–highest weight 306. Started walking and running. Lost 80 pounds. Maintained most of it for 4 years (including losing my FIL and starting and finishing grad school).

2017–250 pounds. Started keto. Lost 80 pounds (total weight loss 140 pounds.)

May 2018–163 pounds (lowest weight as an adult). Ran ½ marathon.

June 2018. My oldest brother had a stroke and died at age 60–he was my inspiration. I stopped prepping and meal planning. I ate whatever was available. Weight started climbing.

October 2018–moved 80 year old Mama 1200 miles so I could be her caregiver. (She had lived with my brother.) She lives in a senior independent living apartment 3 miles away. Weight continued to climb.

December 2018–started a new job (love!) that required a lot of traveling—including 3-5 nights in a hotel about twice a month. Weight continued to climb.

January 2020–spent 10 days with husband at out of town hospital. Provided wound care for 3 months following.

March 2020–COVID. Work from home with my 2 teens, adult son, husband, and MIL. Have not seen my Mom except through a window or screen door since March.

August 2020–current weight 261. Rejoined gym on Friday. Walked/jogged for 30 minutes. Started keto on Sunday.

I’ve had some questions about my fundraising for my trip to the Yosemite Half Marathon. I am so grateful for the encouragement and financial support that many have provided.

Between Facebook, PayPal, and cash gifts, I’m happy to report, I’ve raised enough to cover the basic trip. Any further gifts will give us a cushion in case of unexpected expenses. My Facebook fundraiser has closed, but you can still donate through PayPal (halfajulie@outlook.com) or message me for other ways.

If your business wants to make a donation, I’d be happy to include your name on my race day shirt as well as shoutouts on my blog and page.

January 5, 2017 I started round two of my weight loss journey—keto. Less than two weeks into it, I went out of town for a conference. I got to visit with my brother Brian. We took a picture. A year ago he came to visit me and saw how much weight John and I had lost. He asked questions and decided to jump in. We’ve both lost about 80 pounds this past year. I’ve lost a total of 140, and he has lost 120. Here’s us a year later.
