Volunteers are needed for the Chaves County Stand Down, a community event supporting at-risk individuals, families, and veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

We need help with:
* Setup & Tear Down: Tables, chairs and cleanup.
* Food & Beverage: Provide desserts, rolls and water for 300 attendees.
* Hospitality: Serve meal and create a welcoming environment.
* Survey: Help guests complete brief survey.

Community Call to Action: Help Our Homeless Neighbors!

Chaves County Together with Veterans is joining hands with our community to support homeless individuals and veterans in need. As the colder months approach, many in our community are struggling to stay warm, clean and safe.

We’ve made it easy to help — you can donate essential supplies directly through our Amazon Shopping List. Every item you purchase will be delivered straight to our local program to be distributed to those in need.

BREAKING: New Mexico will provide $30 million in emergency food assistance starting Nov. 1, 2025, to support low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities during the federal government shutdown.

The Health Care Authority will load the state-funded benefits onto existing EBT cards, covering about 30% of November’s usual SNAP amount, with at least $100 for elderly and disabled recipients.

Funds are expected to appear by Saturday.
