π¬ Science-Backed: Cannabis Beverages May Help Reduce Alcohol Consumption
A groundbreaking new study published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs has found compelling evidence that cannabis beverages can serve as an effective alcohol substitute and harm reduction strategy.
π Key Findings from SUNY Buffalo Researchers:
β’ Cannabis beverage consumers reported FEWER weekly alcoholic drinks after starting THC beverages
β’ Participants engaged in binge drinking LESS FREQUENTLY
β’ Users actively substituted cannabis beverages for alcohol
β’ Multiple studies show 25-27% reduction in alcohol consumption when cannabis is available
π‘ What This Means:
"These consistent findings provide support for the notion that legal cannabis can serve as a substitute for alcohol among certain individuals, and that legal cannabis markets may, in some instances, disrupt alcohol-dominant marketplaces," says NORML's Deputy Director Paul Armentano.
The study's authors concluded: "Substitution of alcohol with cannabis may function as a harm reduction strategy, and cannabis beverages may be particularly useful for these purposes."
