💜 It’s Autoimmune Awareness Month: We See You.
You already know. You know what it means to have a body that sometimes works against you. You know the flares, the fatigue, the skin that changes without warning, the hair that randomly sheds so much you swear you won’t have any left. You know the appointments, the elimination diets, the ingredient labels studied with intention.
This is your place. 826 & Co. was built by someone living this — not inspired by it, but born in a basement from lived experience and a determination to create solutions. Below you'll find how some of the most common autoimmune and inflammatory conditions show up on your skin, scalp, and hair. Not as a diagnosis. Not as medical advice. Just recognition — because feeling seen is where healing starts.
• Lupus: The "butterfly" flush is well-known, but Lupus can also bring extreme photosensitivity and scalp lesions that require the gentlest touch.
• Hashimoto’s: Beyond the fatigue, you might notice persistent "sandpaper" dryness, thinning outer eyebrows, and hair that feels brittle or slow to grow.
• Alopecia Areata: The shock of sudden, smooth circular patches of hair loss. It’s a journey of unpredictable shedding and regrowth that affects your very identity.
• Psoriasis: More than just "dry skin," it’s an accelerated cell cycle leading to silvery scales and plaques that can itch, burn, or bleed.
• Rheumatoid Arthritis: While it targets joints, RA can manifest as vasculitis (small red spots), thinning skin, or nodules under the surface.
• Sjogren’s Syndrome: The "dryness disease." It steals moisture from your eyes and mouth, but also leaves skin and lips feeling tight, parched, and easily irritated.
• Celiac Disease & Skin: Many don’t realize Celiac is reported to cause Dermatitis Herpetiformis—an intensely itchy, blistering rash that reacts to gluten.
• Eczema: An overactive immune response that breaks down the skin barrier, leading to cycles of intense itching, inflammation, and flare-up fatigue.
We believe that skincare for the autoimmune community should be a source of relief, not another thing to worry about. We’ll be diving deeper into each of these conditions in our upcoming Journal series.
How does your skin and hair tell your autoimmune story? Let’s hold space for each other in the comments. 👇
