Always remember to be kind.

When you’re in the middle of a stressful moment with your kids, it’s really easy to get focused on solving it correctly.

Saying the right thing, handling it the right way, not losing your composure in front of them.

But what your child is actually filing away in those moments has very little to do with whether you had the perfect response.

It’s more of a felt sense.

Did this feel safe?

Was I okay?

Could I trust the person I needed most when things got hard?

Kids are not keeping score of your parenting decisions.

They are keeping a running record of how it felt to be around you, and that record shapes how safe they feel in the world long after they’ve left your home.

You don’t have to be perfect in the hard moments.
