One of the most effective ways we can protect ourselves and our community from measles is by understanding the options available to us, including vaccines. At Rutherford Regional, our goal is to provide clear, helpful information so you can make informed decisions for your family.

The vaccine available for measles also protects against mumps and rubella. It is known as the MMR vaccine, and 95 out of 100 people who are fully vaccinated will be protected from measles.

Two doses of the MMR vaccine are recommended for children—the first between 12 and 15 months and the second between ages four and six. Adults born after 1957 who have not been vaccinated should also receive one to two doses of the MMR vaccine. Different vaccination requirements may apply to adult healthcare personnel.

For more information about measles, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Meet Clyde Wilkins, our incredible hospital courier who keeps our operations running smoothly every single day. Clyde transports everything from lab work and supplies to urgent items like materials, deposits, and even those last-minute essentials no one expects. After 35 years with UPS, he joined our team and has spent the past six years serving our clinics with reliability, kindness, and a genuine love for the people he works with. He says one of the best parts of his day is seeing familiar faces — and having his sidekick, Jingles, ride along with him is the cherry on top.

When it comes to the holidays, Clyde loves the joy and meaning of the season. He says everyone seems a little happier this time of year, and he enjoys being part of that spirit. His family is big on decorating — his two adult children come home to help, which he says really means they do most of the work — and they always put up both a real tree and a hand-cut pine from the woods. Clyde loves Christmas music and classic holiday movies such as The Shop Around the Corner, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

This year is especially meaningful for Clyde as he prepares to become a first-time grandfather, something he’s incredibly excited about. He describes his son and daughter as “the best in the world,” and it’s easy to see how much family means to him.

We’re grateful to have him as part of our Holiday Heroes series and our team!

Understanding how measles spreads is essential to keeping our community safe, especially as cases continue to rise across the country. Measles is very contagious and spreads:

• Through the air by infectious droplets (e.g., from coughing or sneezing)

• By an infected person, approximately four days before symptoms appear until four days after the rash appears

• On the surfaces or in the air of rooms occupied by an infected person, for up to two hours after he/she leaves.

Consult with your healthcare provider to ensure you and your family are fully vaccinated against measles. For more information about measles, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.
