And none of that is easy.

Being the first often means moving through uncharted territory. It can mean confusion, pushback, loneliness, and growing pains. But it also means you are the one opening doors that needed to be opened. You are creating possibilities for those who come after you—your children, your family, your community.

So please stop for a moment and recognize the strength it has taken to get where you are.

There is nothing easy about this.

It takes time to come to terms with the difference between your hoped-for outcome and reality. Often, the only way to do this is to go through the experience again and again, until you finally truly see: no, this is not working or you.

And once you have realized that you need to make a change, it requires courage to actually do it and patience to actually see the impact in your life.
