🌟Member Spotlight: SHIELDS for Families 🌟

CFRA and The Child Abuse Prevention Center recently visited SHIELDS for Families in South Los Angeles, and we came away deeply inspired.

What Makes SHIELDS Different?
They've built a truly integrated continuum of care—not just programs side by side, but services that actively connect so families experience seamless support from a single, trusted partner:

✨ ASK — immediate resource navigation & family support
✨ CalAIM — whole person care coordination
✨ POSC — wraparound support for families impacted by prenatal substance exposure
✨ Family Preservation & Community Cultural Brokers
✨ Home Visitation (PAT/HFA)
✨ Behavioral Health Services
✨ And much more

🔑The key? These programs truly talk to one another. Families are referred internally across services, reducing gaps and creating wraparound care that actually wraps around.

🔦Spotlight: Families Stronger Together LA🔦
This program provides 24 hour response and preventative legal services to families reported to or under investigation by DCFS. Each family is paired with a peer partner with lived experience, plus access to mental health services, home visiting, substance use support, legal services, and more.

This is prevention exactly where it matters most: before a crisis becomes a case, and before a family becomes defined by a system instead of supported by a community.

Thank you to SHIELDS for Families for welcoming us and showing us what it looks like to build prevention infrastructure that's both responsive and relational. 💜

🌟CFRA Highlight - CPI Bringing Family Voices to Policymakers🌟

CFRA joined Congressman Mike Thompson’s Office in visiting the Child Parent Institute's Family Resource Center (CPI FRC) at John Reed Elementary in Rohnert Park.

During CPI’s weekly El Cafecito, Sergio Toscano, the Congressman’s Field Representative, heard directly from parents and staff about what makes FRCs so impactful: trust, belonging, and connection.

💬 “Building trust is our number one goal. Once there is trust and safety, comfort grows.” – Norma Robles, CPI Staff

💬 “For me, CPI has become like a family; it is a place where peace and tranquility can be felt.” – Teresa, Parent

This visit was part of CFRA’s advocacy to ensure policymakers see firsthand how FRCs strengthen communities and transform lives.

📊 CPI FRC Impact
• 227 families served in 2024
• $44,300 distributed in essential gift cards
• 2,060 parents supported through the Diaper Project since 2017

💜 Thank you to CPI staff, parents, and partners for welcoming us and sharing your stories. Your work proves that relationships—not just numbers—create real change.
