The Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) founded in 1992 by the Los Angeles Police Department, is a non-profit organization with 14 chapters and more than 1,200 members, including law enforcement, prosecutors, mental health professionals, probation and parole personnel, corporate security experts, and others involved in threat and violence risk assessment. ATAP’s purpose is to create a professional and educational environment for exchanging ideas and strategies to address issues such as stalking and threats of targeted violence. ATAP provides the necessary knowledge, tools, and support to help members reduce the risk of targeted violence toward individuals, communities and organizations.
