The base of fragrances is a synthetic version of an animal musk - an animal musk is a glandular excretion from animals that they use for mating and marking territory.

So why do companies use synthetic musks in their fragrances? ✨

Musks alter scent perception, making fragrances seem richer and more appealing, which can "trick" the brain into associating the scent with positive feelings or memories. Essentially, they allow companies to use cheaper formulas that your brain perceives as desirable when they aren't, even leading to an almost addictive attachment.

What are the dangers? ✨

✨ Synthetic musks found in fragrances and personal care products, mimic natural hormones, particularly estrogen, leading to hormonal imbalances.

✨ These compounds can disrupt the endocrine system, which regulates vital functions such as metabolism, reproduction, and growth.

✨ Exposure to synthetic musks can result in reproductive health concerns, including potential fertility issues and menstrual cycle disruptions.

✨ There’s also a risk of metabolic disturbances, such as changes in weight, energy levels, and thyroid function, due to hormone regulation interference.

✨ Synthetic musks are lipophilic, meaning they accumulate in body fat over time, leading to prolonged exposure and increased health risks.

✨ These chemicals are persistent environmental pollutants, found in water, soil, and even human tissues, making continuous exposure a significant concern.

Real animal musks, and a seed musk used to be used in small amounts of high end luxury perfumes. Companies caught on to way these musks can trick they brain and started making them synthetic so they could use high quantities. It's deception at its finest.

When you quit using these fragrances and start using real scents you realize how awful these products actually smell.

One of the best thing you can do for your health is swap out products with fragrance for clean products.
