Finish the Fight Against Tobacco

Finish the Fight Against Tobacco Finish the Fight Against Tobacco (Fight Tobacco) is dedicated to decreasing tobacco-related diseases and deaths by reducing tobacco use in California.

For more than 20 years, California has defined best practices for comprehensive tobacco control that have been modeled throughout the nation and world. As a result, tobacco-related disease and death in California has decreased significantly, while the best practices have helped improve public health and decrease healthcare expenditures. Today, California has the second lowest adult and youth smoking rates, and is reducing the incidence of lung cancer more than three times faster than the rest of the nation. But the fight isn’t over yet: More than 3 million Californians still smoke and the tobacco industry relentlessly continues to market its products.

Winners of the 2nd Annual To***co and Its Impact in My Community Photo Contest

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), California To***co Control Program (CTCP) is very excited to announce the winners of the 2nd annual “To***co and Its Impact in My Community” photo contest! In our continued effort for California’s Winnable Battle: Finish the Fight Against To***co, the purpose of the photo contest was to promote awareness of how the presence of to***co is still a problem in our state. Our goal was to showcase images submitted by Californians that “tell the story” about to***co control issues that significantly impact youth and disadvantaged communities.

A special thank you to Sutter Express Care, a program of Sutter Health who provided $1,000 in cash prizes to the winning photo entries.

Winners and photos are exhibited online at:

Think you are safe from stroke because you don’t smoke? Think again. Exposure to secondhand smoke increases your risk. Speak up and ask others not to smoke around you.
