The Story of Wendy, how she got here
When my mom and dad got divorce I was 16 years old and it was horrid. I just wanted the pain to stop and I thought maybe if I was dead it would stop. So, one day with a handful of pills I almost did just that but in walked my little sister and I did not do it. She did not know that she saved me just by being there at just the right moment.
My mom found out and off to the therapist I was sent. One Toba Gladstone was her name and she was wonderful. We had a contract that I would not kill myself before the following week when we saw one another again. We talked, she made me relaxation recording that were wonderful and taught me how to use them. I learned that I loved the sound of whispering and certain people voices could easily calm me. Today it is call ASMR (autonomous, sensory, meridian, response) you can find something you like on Youtube, just type in ASMR and find an artist you like. I learned other techniques, learned that it was ok to be angry with adults and that you could love someone you did not always like.
I worked with Toba for about a year and did well and moved on with my life with skills that helped me many time in my life. But the one thing that I walked away with was the want to be able to help someone in the way Toba had helped me. I wanted to be a counselor but did not realize poor kids could go to college. So, two son’s an ex-husband and a new husband later as well as good jobs that took care of my family. I lost a job and after 18 months of looking for work and the sons out of the house my husband said it is time for you to go back to school. My response was “I will be 50 when I get my bachelors”, he commented “you’re going to be 50 either way”.
