Health Reveler Celebrate a healthy lifestyle! Have fun, eat well, sleep well. https://linktr.ee/healthreveler We're sisters Sarah Atkinson and Patrice Atkinson.

We embarked on a journey to health after losing our mom to complications of Type 2 diabetes in August 2011. She told us that one regret she had was not eating better. Mom battled with food, weight and body image her entire life. The decline she experienced with her illness was scary and heartbreaking to watch. It was the catalyst for change that helped us reclaim our health. We feel great, had a lot of fun taking up activities such as kickboxing and “fun runs”, and have learned so much valuable information that we decided to start Health Reveler, a page to celebrate what we've learned and continue to learn. As part of her journey, Sarah has become an ACE-certified Health Coach and loves keeping up with the latest fitness and nutrition research. We hope to inspire others to make healthful changes and have fun doing it! We also look forward to hearing your stories and learning from you!

Good news! Friendship is good for you. 😁 Like seriously good. Lowers stress, boosts immunity, and just makes us happy. This post shares a bunch of ideas on how to have fun with your friends and build bonds.

And don't forget acquaintances. Turns out they are beneficial for our health, too. Although we may not have heartfelt conversations with acquaintances, we can still have fun, network, try new things, and get introduced to new ideas.

I don’t know about you, but this is the time of year when I start to feel a little anxiety about the weather. I live in Minnesota, U.S.A. and August is usually the last warm, sunny month of the summer. This year it is EXTRA EXTRA HOT! Phew.

I love autumn — the changing colors are beautiful, the crispy air smells so clean, and the leaves crunchy beneath my feet are the sounds of childhood, only then I was jumping into a pile of leaves.

If you live in a colder climate like me, chat with your doctor about taking a vitamin D supplement. Or if you simply don’t get out into the sunshine much for whatever reason. It can make all the difference!

My blog post talks about a few other ways to get a dose of this vitamin, which helps keep your spirits up.

Please share your thoughts and let me know if there are any topics you’re interested in. I’ll do some research and get a post up.

Hi Health Revelers. It's been a loooonnng time since I have posted. Over the past few years I have been busy getting my 500-hour yoga certification, switching jobs 3 times, buying a home, selling a home, moving x 2, etc. It's kept me busy and really stressed out. Over the past few months I have been reconnecting with some of my favorite hobbies: music, healthy living, writing, bicycling, yoga, making a little jewelry, photography. It's been great. Music and writing rise to the surface as my favorite hobbies so I have started writing blog posts for Health Reveler again. I plan to share a new post each week.

This week the topic is -- HOBBIES! Did you know hobbies are good for your health? Like in a scientific way. No wonder I'm feel so much better when I'm actively enjoying my hobbies. What are your hobbies? Have you spent time enjoying them lately?

Hobbies boost your mental and physical health, acting like a magic potion enhancing oth our mental and physical well-being.

Go have some fun!

In a culture that often rewards multitasking, fast-paced lifestyles, and high productivity, fun is often underrated. But when we have fun, magical things start to happen.

So proud of my nephew . He fought child obesity and he is still winning! Childhood obesity affects nearly 14 million kids in the United States today (source: CDC.gov), and my nephew is sharing his story to inspire other young people to join him in living healthy. (He’s promised me he’ll give yoga a try this year!)

My word for 2020 is FOCUS. I love ideas and have a lot of them, so I often lose focus. Even now that I have made the conscious decision to focus, I’m having a hard time narrowing down exactly where I want to focus. 😋

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One thing I’ll be doing for sure is developing a new yoga workshop I’ll be excited to share when I’m done.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m also thinking about brushing off some old manuscripts and making it a goal to finish the short story collection I started in graduate school. (I started an MFA in Creative Writing program and dropped out about half way through.)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How about you? What’s in store for your new year? I’d really love it if you’d share something!

For those of us who live in colder climates, wintertime can be a source of heightened anxiety, isolation, and carb binging. For others, it means skiing and ice skating and winter carnivals. For most, it’s likely a mix of the two. The good news is you don’t have to love (or even like) winter to enjoy the health benefits! You’ll sleep better and burn more “bad” fat while the chill reduces inflammation much the same way an ice pack reduces swelling on that injury. So find yourself some winter fun and embrace the cold!
