Good morning!

As many of you know, our agency serves a number of vulnerable people in our community. We have been closely monitoring the progression of and the response to the spread of COVID-19 throughout the region and are grateful to state and local leaders and to the Minnesota Department of Health for responding forcefully to limit the exposure to and the spread of the virus.

In view of that guidance, we have taken the following steps to lessen this outbreak's impact on our clients and to ensure both their continued health and safety and the health and safety of our staff members.

1.) Any work that can be undertaken as telework or that can be done remotely will be undertaken as telework or will be done remotely.

2.) All face-to-face visits that had previously been scheduled to take place in acute care facilities or nursing homes have been postponed pending guidance from those facilities or from the Minnesota Department of Health.

In the meantime, any important and necessary casework that is deadline-sensitive will be completed by fax or email and any conversations that must take place to complete that casework will be undertaken by phone.

3.) Any face-to-face meetings scheduled to take place in educational or group home settings are subject to the COVID-mitigation policies put forward by the districts and agencies that oversee those schools or group homes. Our agency is working closely with these districts and agencies to support their COVID-mitigation policies and to advocate for remote meeting attendance or postponement wherever possible.

While the situation surrounding COVID-19 is evolving day-to-day, it is becoming clear that mitigation tactics such as those listed above should be undertaken whenever and wherever possible to slow the community spread of the virus and to protect those most vulnerable to its impacts.

To that end, we would also urge everyone to follow the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health in practicing social distancing and limiting contact in crowds or large group spaces. We recognize these practices will be inconvenient for most and will impact some negatively; we also recognize that not undertaking these practices will be far more damaging to our communities and may cause significant medical complications or even death to the most vulnerable among us.

We ask you to join us in doing your part to prevent this by slowing the spread of this virus.

Today seems like a good day to remind everyone how important it is to dress in layers -- if, say, you were headed down the street to grab a pumpkin-spiced beverage or headed out into the field to visit with a provider.

Either way, we're ready.

At Alternatives SLS, Inc., we provide person-centered guardianship services to people who need supports and their families, which means that we often work closely with many different people -- some who are healthier than others. That's why, when flu season rolls around, we encourage everyone who can to get a flu vaccine.

Remember: even if you don't think you're at risk for suffering serious complications from the flu, there may be someone in your life or someone you work with who is. To learn more and to find an affordable (often free!) flu vaccine provider near you, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website below.

Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza.

Today is the thirtieth annual State Conference of the Minnesota Association of Guardianship & Conservatorship (MAGiC).

Hi, everyone!

It's been an eventful few months for our agency.

Our time away from social media has meant more time to communicate with our community partners, to grow our business, and to offer person-centered services to more people in more places.

Due to that focus, we're excited to report that Alternatives SLS, Inc. is serving more folks month-over-month. Thank you for supporting our mission and for bearing with us as we continue to grow!

We're committed to providing person-centered guardianship services that value people who need supports, their families, and those who care for them -- and we're committed to fostering better understanding of what is guardianship, what sorts of alternatives and supports are available for those who might need it, and what people can do to make their own communities more welcoming to folks living with disabilities.
