As the longest night becomes, we gather in stillness and reverence to rest, release, and remember what carries us through the dark.

This heart-centered retreat honors the Winter Solstice as a sacred turning point, a time to reflect, renew, and gently tend to the light within & the light to return.

Winter is the season for introspection in Chinese Medicine. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the year behind you and set gentle intentions for the year ahead—not the “do everything perfectly” kind of resolutions, but the “what would nourish me?” kind. For me, this means taking an inventory and listening to my body. Sometimes what nourishes me is to rest. Sometimes what nourishes me is to move. My body tells me what KIND of movement. And sometimes, let’s be honest, I just get really cranky and that’s code for it’s time to move OR rest. It might be as simple as adding 15 minutes of sleep a night, making a point of staying connected with loved ones by sending them funny memes or texts, or dedicating more time to nourishing activities like cooking and reading. Winter reminds me that growth happens even in stillness. What’s one intention you’re carrying into the new year? I’d love to hear how you’re nurturing yourself as we move through this season.

Reflect and Recharge for the New Year

Winter is the season for introspection in Chinese Medicine. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the year behind you and set gentle intentions for the year ahead—not the “do everything perfectly” kind of resolutions, but the “what would nourish me?” kind.

As the days get colder we know cold and flu season is coming and it’s time to hunker down. If you feel the start of an illness coming try the below recipe!
Ingredients: ginger, scallions, water (cinnamon, lemon, or honey to taste). Smash the white of three green onions using the back of a spoon (can keep them intact). Smash two ginger slices using the back of a spoon. Add to two cups of water and bring to a boil for about ten minutes. Strain the liquid and drink. Add a cinnamon stick or squeeze of a lemon for added flavor. Next take a warm shower followed by wrapping yourself in warm blankets until you sweat. After you sweat it is important to put on dry clothes. Remember to drink water and rest too!
Not only is ginger (Sheng Jiang 生姜) good for the stomach it is also a bronchodilator that will help to open lungs and decongest. Ginger’s warming nature helps to circulate while its acrid nature releasing the exterior and pushing out the pathogen, in this case cold. Scallions (Cong Bai 葱白) also help release the exterior by inducing sweating to disperse cold. To learn more or schedule an appointment visit the link in my bio.

I mean, is there a better compliment than being someone’s “magic person”? I love that acupuncture doesn’t just tackle the one thing someone comes in for—it ends up helping with all these unexpected areas of their life, too. When I work with patients, it’s always a collaboration. As much as I love being a “magic person” the collaboration between the patient, me, and the medicine is where the real magic of healing happens.

Protect Your Energy This Winter

In winter, it’s easy to feel depleted if you’re giving too much of yourself without refilling your tank. Chinese Medicine teaches us that this is the season to conserve energy, not burn it out. I like to think of winter as my “boundary season.” For me, protecting my energy looks like saying no when I need to, wrapping myself in layers (energetic and literal), and choosing activities that restore me. It’s not about isolation; it’s about being intentional with how I spend my time and energy.
