Erntedankfest - Harvest Thanksgiving was celebrated in Pommern at the end of September or the beginning of October. On the morning of the harvest festival the wives of the manor workers received gifts of produce from the manor owner. In the afternoon a colorful precession started on the road to the manor. Music led the way and the girls in festive colorful clothing brought the harvest crown. (Pictured, a rare photo showing the carrying of the harvest crown by the young women of Mossin, Kreis Schlochau.)

Upon the arrival at the manor, the owner welcomed the procession. The harvest crown was presented to the manor family with good wishes. This large harvest crown would hang in the manor until the harvest the next year. At the manor, a bountiful meal was served on a very long table. This mean was the owner's way of thank the workers for their labor. Later in the evening, the celebration was continued in the village tavern with dancing and music.

Stanisław Frymark, a Kashubia and history enthusiast, has died
(Obituary from the Chojnice newspaper, and photos of the funeral from Swavek)

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Stanisław Frymark, a Kashubian ethnophilologist, English philologist, educator, and lover of Kashubian culture. He died on February 2, 2025, at the age of 52.

Stanisław Frymark was born on November 7, 1972 in Brusy, and came from Leśno-Wybudowania. His life and activity were closely connected with Kashubia, where he settled permanently. There he founded the Kashubian Agroturistic Guesthouse and the Zómk Zôbòrsczi (Zaborski Castle) publishing house, which contributed to the promotion of regional literature.

He was not only a researcher and teacher, but also a writer, poet, photographer and painter. For many years he served as the village head of the Stoltmann Family Assembly, engaging in the life of the Kashubian community. He cooperated with the Kashubian Poles in the USA, Canada and New Zealand, researching the fate of emigrants and organizing lectures for their descendants. He also translated Kashubian literature into English, including works by Anna Łajming.

He was the author of the monograph Leśna, and his works and involvement in the promotion of Kashubian culture will long remain in the memory of those who had the opportunity to work with him.

The funeral of Stanisław Frymark will take place on Wednesday, February 5, at 12:00 in Leśno.

The Pommern Regional Group of Minnesota wishes to note the passing of Stanley Frymark today. He was a wonderful tour guide to many of our members. He spoke German, English, Polish and Kashubian.

He drove many people around to see their ancestral villages and they were thrilled. He served as interpreter and researcher too. Everyone he helped had an amazing experience or wonderous breakthrough in their research. He brought concern and enthusiasm to each person's individual life journey. He will be missed and very possibly, irreplaceable.

Falkenberg, Naugard Church. This organ was in the balcony. It had 36 white keys and stops and pedals. Somebody had to press the pedal on the right to work the bellows so the organ could play.
