Can alternate nostril breathing help you beat anxiety, improve digestion, and sleep soundly? 👃 ⠀
⠀
In his book, Breath, describes how "the right nostril is a gas pedal... circulation speeds up, your body gets hotter, and cortisol levels, blood pressure, and heart rate all increase".⠀
⠀
Conversely, "Inhaling through the left nostril has the opposite effect... The left nostril is more deeply connected to the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest-and-relax side that lowers temperature and blood pressure, cools the body, and reduces anxiety."⠀
⠀
LEFT = Rest-and-Digest 😴 ⠀
RIGHT = Alertness & Focus💡 ⠀
⠀
Alternate nostril breathing is a huge part of many ancient Pranayama yoga practices, and for good reason!⠀
⠀
By changing which nostril you breathe out of, you can alter your own physiology to either boost energy and focus or chill out.⠀
⠀
While many practices involve switching between nostrils, some research shows that breathing out of a single nostril for prolonged periods of time has more pronounced effects.⠀
