In Ayurveda, this time of year invites us to support the body as it naturally clears out the heaviness of winter and begins to move into more vibrant, flowing energy. The foods we choose in spring can help our digestion reset, our energy lift, and our systems come back into balance.

I’m so excited to be teaming up with my dear friend Hillary Hepp of SolFit Wellness to offer a Spring Ayurveda Cooking Workshop at Red Feather Studios in Gulfport. In this we’ll explore how to bring these seasonal principles into the kitchen in a simple, practical, and nourishing way.

Together we’ll:
• Learn the basics of Ayurvedic seasonal eating
• Prepare a beautiful, nourishing meal together
• Explore spices and ingredients that support digestion and vitality
• Share a meal in community eating mindfully

Ayurveda reminds us that food is one of the most powerful ways we care for ourselves. When we cook with intention and align with the seasons, our meals become medicine.
If you’ve been curious about Ayurveda or simply want to learn new ways to cook healthy, vibrant meals, we would love to have you join us.

Our minds and senses are constantly processing, reacting, and adapting—and in today’s world, they’re often overwhelmed. Ayurveda sees the mind (manas) as closely linked to the doshas and to ojas, our vital reserve of energy. In this class, this Thursday, February 19th, we'll take a deep dive into several Ayurvedic herbs that support mood and cognition—like Tulsi, Shankhpushpi, Kapikkachu, Bacopa, Gotu Kola and other complimentary western herbs like Mimosa, Gingko, & Rhodiola. We'll also explore many of the beautiful tools of Ayurveda that nourish the nervous system and sensory organs, from pranayama, to meditation, to the use of Nasya oils. We’ll be making a traditional herbal ghee together in class, so bring your 4oz jar along to take home your herbal goodies! 🌿✨

See you at Traditions School of Herbal Studies this Thursday at 6pm. Link for both in person and virtual options in the comments below.⬇️

In Ayurveda, stress is referred to as sahasa. This form of stress can lead to ojahksaya, or a loss of immunity, increasing the body's susceptibility to various diseases. While avoiding stress isn't always possible, it's crucial to protect the body through proper diet, sleep, nervous system regulation and the use of supportive herbs.

This Thursday, November 13th 6:30-8:30 at Traditions School of Herbal Studies, we will explore herbs and tools to help manage stress and maintain healthy levels. We’ll delve into the essential roadmap for life: how to effectively regulate your nervous system. You’ll gain valuable insights from Ayurveda, Western herbalism, neuroscience, and energy medicine to help tame the modern-day tiger. We will focus on two powerful herbs, Ashwagandha and Tulsi, both known for their stress-relieving properties. As a hands-on activity, we’ll create an adapotogenic golden milk we can enjoy to nourish our nervous systems together-bring a 4 oz jar in case there are any left over to bring home!

As spring approaches, Ayurvedic wisdom calls us to lighten up. 🦋 This reflects everything from eating lighter foods, playing and moving more, wearing lighter colors, etc. I've switched from my usual eggs and cooked dark leafy greens for breakfast to mixing it up with some chia seed pudding. It's super easy to make-You just mix chia seeds with your milk of choice (I used oat) and let it sit and gel up. I also like to mix in protein powder: Kachava or Garden of Life are the two brands I like because they are food based. Getting 20g of protein in the morning can be a game changer. Topped with warm organic berries (more cost effective than fresh). Warming the berries supports the digestive fire. 🔥 I also add Chai masala spices to energetically warm up this slightly colder dish. If you don't have that on hand you can just sprinkle some cinnamon or nutmeg on top. Lastly I've topped it with some grain free granola and pepitas. Chia seeds contain lots of healthy Omega fatty acids, fiber and are moistening, soothing the gut lining and hydrating our cells. Berries are also fiber and antioxidant rich. Pumpkin seeds are full of magnesium and other trace minerals that we are as a population typically deficient in (soil quality). What's your favorite spring breakfast? How are you feeling lighter or altering your habits as the seasonal shift approaches? 🌱✨

One of the most common patterns I see as a clinical herbalist is low stomach acid or from an Ayurvedic lens, low agni or digestive fire. Stress, toxins, poorer food choices due to soil quality etc, and eating processed food on the go vs eating slow food mindfully are some root causes. As a result, it's harder to digest both animal and plant protein and starts being (sometimes subconsciously) avoided. This leads to nutrient deficiencies and often low Ferritin levels, which is the lab value (not usually tested) most indicative of iron levels in my experience. Fatigue, hair loss, anxiety and insomnia follow. Below are some examples of iron rich food. If you struggle to digest these foods, pairing meals with a Betaine HCL supplement or Digestive Bitters can be a game changer.

If you'd like to learn more about ways to boost your digestive fire and up your game food wise, join Hillary Hepp and I at Traditions School of Herbal Studies on Saturday March 22nd from 9am-1pm for a half day workshop where we will cover these topics in depth along with cooking and eating several prana rich Ayurvedic dishes together. 🔥🌱✨Registration link in the comments below 👇
