A simple touch can change everything.

Last week, we held hands with a daughter overwhelmed by her mom’s new diagnosis. She felt lost in a maze of medical jargon and decisions. But with one call, she gained a nurse advocate who listened, explained, and gently guided her every step of the way.

Her words? “I finally feel like I can breathe again.”

This is what real support looks like. Independent, compassionate, and always on your side.

If you or someone you love needs a hand to hold through the healthcare journey, let’s talk.

You’re not alone.

Today, as so many families gather around tables and screens, we’re thinking especially of you—the caregivers who show up day after day for the aging adults you love.

We are deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us this year. Thank you for allowing us to come alongside you in the middle of late-night worries, hard decisions, hospital visits, placement questions, and all the quiet, unseen moments of care in between.

You invite us into some of the most tender parts of your story, and we don’t take that lightly. It is an honor to:
• Help you prepare for appointments and big conversations
• Stand with you as you navigate dementia, chronic illness, and complex systems
• Celebrate the small wins and sacred moments that don’t always make it into the photo albums

On this Thanksgiving Day, please hear this clearly:
You matter. Your love matters. The way you keep showing up—imperfectly, honestly, and bravely—matters more than you know.
From all of us at Your Nurse Advocate Consulting, thank you for letting us walk beside you on this caregiving journey. We’re grateful for you today and every day, not just on Thanksgiving.

Wishing you pockets of rest, moments of connection, and at least one small thing you can be gently thankful for today. 🧡

Wellness Wednesday: Understanding the 7 Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s rarely shows up all at once.
For most families, it starts as a handful of “little things” that are easy to shrug off:
Misplacing items and repeating the same questions
Struggling to manage bills, appointments, or medications
Withdrawing from conversations or social activities

Over time, those small changes can add up—and that’s often when families start to wonder:
“Is this normal aging… or something more?”
Understanding the 7 stages of Alzheimer’s disease can help you:
Put what you’re seeing into context
Ask more specific questions at doctor’s appointments
Plan ahead for safety, support, and long-term care
Feel less alone and less “crazy” for noticing changes

The Alzheimer’s Association has a helpful overview of the 7 stages here:
https://act.alz.org/site/DocServer/sevenstages.pdf?docID=16881

💚 Wellness Wednesday Action Step:
If you’re worried about a parent, spouse, or loved one:
Read through the 7 stages in the link above.

Jot down what you’re seeing at home—specific examples.
Bring both to your next medical appointment and ask,
“What stage do you think we might be in, and what should we be planning for next?”

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, confused, or unsure how to advocate for your loved one, you don’t have to carry this alone. As nurse advocates, we help families:
Prepare for appointments and ask the right questions
Understand what the doctor is saying (in plain language)
Create realistic plans for safety, support, and quality of life
You are not failing your loved one by asking for help.
You are loving them by getting informed and supported.

This week’s Tuesday Tips is all about something that can feel really complicated when you’re a caregiver: gratitude.
If you’re caring for an aging parent, partner, or loved one, you might be hearing a lot of messages right now about “being thankful” and “counting your blessings.”

But at the very same time, you might be thinking:
“I’m grateful… but I’m also exhausted.”

Or even, “Honestly, I don’t feel very grateful at all right now.”
If that’s you, you are not alone.
In this replay of “Attitude of Gratitude: Finding Joy in the Caregiving Journey,” Pam from Your Nurse Advocate Consulting unpacks what gratitude really looks like in real-life caregiving—without toxic positivity and without adding more to your plate.
In this episode, we talk about:
• What gratitude is—and what it is NOT—for caregivers

• How gratitude can actually support your health and your relationships

• Simple, realistic ways to practice gratitude, even on the really hard days
My goal for you: that you walk away with one tiny thing you can try this week, not a whole new to‑do list.
As you watch, take a moment to reflect:
What’s one word that describes how you’re feeling going into this holiday week—tired, hopeful, overwhelmed, grateful, all of the above? There are no wrong answers.

‘Caregivers are the quiet heartbeat of a family’s gratitude—steady, unseen, and keeping love alive when life feels hardest.’
– Unknown
As we move through this Thanksgiving season, we’re thinking about all the caregivers who:
• Reheat their coffee three times and still drink it cold
• Hold hands in hospital rooms and living rooms
• Remember the medications, the appointments, and the little details no one else sees
• Keep showing up, even when they’re tired, scared, or grieving
You may not always hear “thank you,” but your love is the steady heartbeat behind so many family stories.

If you are a caregiver, this is for you:
You are seen. You are needed. You are deeply appreciated—even on the days it doesn’t feel that way. 💚
Tag a caregiver who deserves to be reminded how much they matter.

How to start the conversation from a place of love, not fear
Whether you have to be a DNR if you choose hospice

New Blog post: What Exactly Does DNR Mean? Is it all or Nothing?

The holidays are one of the only times all the siblings are in the same room… which also makes it one of the best times to talk about your aging parent’s wishes.
One question that comes up a lot:
👉 “What does a DNR really mean?”
👉 “If Mom is on hospice, does she have to be a DNR?”
👉 “Is it all or nothing?”
Here’s what most families don’t realize:
A DNR is not a decision to “do nothing.” It’s a decision about one specific situation—whether or not to attempt CPR if the heart or breathing stops.
In this week’s blog, we’re breaking down:
✅ What a DNR actually is (and isn’t)
✅ Partial/limited treatment options (it’s not always all-or-nothing)
✅ How hospice and DNR decisions work together
✅ How to gently start this conversation when your family is together for the holidays
You don’t have to wait for an ER crisis to figure this out. You can start the conversation now—with love, clarity, and support.

“Sunday is a leisure day; when you can forget the responsibilities of your workplace and spend quality time along with family, friends, and relatives.”
– Srinivas Mishra

If you’re caring for an aging parent, “forgetting responsibilities” can feel impossible. Your mind is always running:
Did Mom take her meds?
Is Dad safe at home?
What if something happens this week?

Today, give yourself permission to set some of that down—even for a little while.
Quality time counts for you, too.
🕊️ Take a slow walk.
🕯️ Share a story with someone you love.
📞 Call a friend who “gets it.”

You deserve moments of leisure, connection, and peace—not just more to-do lists.
How are you caring for your own soul this Sunday?
