We missed our cats a lot 🐱 all 11 of them. Wrio and Benita are getting introduced to the others this week! 🥹

These are considered to be PERIMORPHS: the quartz and hematite grew over an original mineral (like calcite or barite) that may have since dissolved or been replaced by the magnesite-rich matrix.

Here are the details:

The most famous specimens of Haüyne originate from Germany; found as tinyyyyyy little pieces and usually made into gemstones for jewelry.

What we have here are the larger specimens for the serious mineral collector; coming from Sar-e Sang, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. These are usually blue but I got my hand on a batch with mixed green tones!

The green coloring is crazy rare. It happens because the sulfur atoms form pairs (S2) instead of the usual triplets (S3) found in blue specimens. This changes how light is reflected, allowing more yellow to pass through the blue thus making the mineral appear green.

These will range from $40-$310. Most are looking to be around the $100-$120 range.

We got Baby Benita! 🐱 We’ll be picking her up from SPCA later today. I’m so stressed about the ear clip. I hope they make it small 😭

This has been the first time Ivan and I genuinely had to talk about what to do with the kitty. We usually just take the stray, fix it, and keep it in our backyard where we have a cat fence.

But the dynamics of 9 cats currently is a little stressful. Two of the cats are troublemakers and cause the others to be stressed when we are not around. We also have one cat with FIV, another with diabetes, and another with urinary problems so we’re separating them to feed them and using like 6 different foods.

There is nothing I care more about in this world than cats. Truly. 🐱 but for the first time, we have to make the choice to trap and release rather than keep. It’s sad but at least we are in a very small, safe neighborhood and we feed the stray cats on our porch daily.

💰 Anytime any of you have given a random donation, it has gone straight to the cat food for the strays. So, thank you for that 🫶🏼
