He’s in Need, So We’re Asking

He’s in Need, So We’re Asking My husband Cory was born with a rare kidney disease & needing a transplant. Fast forward to April 2025 & now on the transplant list!💙

Years of appts, labs, scans, and overall living with the pain we heard those dreadful words of transplant and dialysis.

March Madness makes everyone think of basketball, to us it means a little more.
💚 to us it’s a reminder of the constant appts we attend to ensure kidney numbers are stable
💚 it’s the up and down rollercoaster of unexplainable pain, weakness, and insomnia that builds making the body physically exhausted day after day.
💚 it’s the days he goes to work and it takes all he can do, just to make it through to support his family.
💚 one never thinks that he can be 48 and potentially have to retire from a job he loves because his health can’t take it anymore. A job where he flies patients with the same diagnosis as him and he thinks “one day this could be me!”

There is so much more that Cory wants to see in his years ahead but he knows one thing that he doesn’t want…. That’s to spend his life hooked to a dialysis schedule like he watched his Grandfather faithfully do day after day, week after week for years. His Grandpa received a kidney just weeks after Cory’s daughter was born and I know our girls would love nothing more than to walk them down the aisle, have grandbabies, and enjoy retirement!

✝️ while we know what the future holds we don’t know the timeline of how fast this will move along! We pray each day that a living donor will step forward and say I’m a match! A living donor could give him the potential of an extra 20+ years but could give him life he’s never been able to live without medical problems.

🌟We will never give up until a donation comes our way, but at times get discouraged. People ask how they can help or be checked.. we know everyone knows how to google, search it up!!! There is or by reaching out to your primary physician or for us it’s Transplant @ KU Med

💚While March reminds us to wear green, to us it means spreading awareness for Kidney Disease 🙏🏻🫶🏻

Please consider donating! We need a match, see if you can help save a life! 💚

Our wise little elf has been found with the retrieval team. She has been busy collecting gifts for those in desperate need of an extra special gift this Christmas.

A life saving transplant. We think she has some very wise words.

Please about your decisions with your loved ones, say and register your decision at NHS Organ Donation with those you love - after all you never know when you, or someone you love may be waiting for that extra special gift.

Hello all! I haven’t posted on our site for awhile so thought I’d give you an update. We are still trying to pursue a living donor kidney but with the “list” Cory is active and inactive stage. Cory Is on the list but inactive unless we find a living donor there will come a day where Cory’s numbers will continue to increase and we will have no choice but to be permanent on the donor list for living donor or from someone who has passed.

After getting both of our kids moved to different cities in August we are settled in the “empty nester” phase.

In early August Cory got Covid which was awful, his creatinine jump to almost 5 to which freaked us out. Thankfully over the last two months we’re back at 3.8 and holding steady.

Cory’s pain has increased making us a little worried with some weird yet unrelated symptoms. Right rib pain that feels like broke ribs but everything is clear. Also has tailbone pain that makes his job a little more challenging due to sitting all the time. X-rays didn’t show anything but continued pain. His Dr is doing an amazing job keeping up on his pain but worried cause Cory keeps losing weight.

When Cory left the fire dept to go fly fulltime time he was weighing 200lbs, the other day he stepped on the scale at 155-160lbs. I can’t believe my eyes but know it’s the disease progression.

🧪🩸If you want to be tested you can talk with your physician and or visit www.organdonor.gov to see if you’d be a match!! Please contact us if you have any questions or want more information about donating! 💚

Donate And Save A Life! 💚

Why should one donate you ask? Life is not guaranteed, you can do all the things right in life but sometimes the conditions one is born with can’t be corrected without donation.

Not every donor has to be from someone who has passed away, donation can come from a living donor which makes all the difference

Contact us if you would like to get more information on if you’d qualify to donate not just to Cory but anyone

When June was younger, her brother, Brian, went into kidney failure. Her dad, a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, was able to be Brian's living kidney donor. After nearly 20 years with his donated kidney, Brian was in need of another transplant. Now much older, June was able to get tested to be her brother's living donor, and in 2005, June and Brian underwent a successful transplant. Thanks to the generosity of June and her dad, their family had many more years with Brian, but sadly, Brian passed away from organ failure in 2014. Now, June is an advocate for donation, volunteering and competing in the Transplant Games of America. 💙💚 Register your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor and learn more about living donation at DonateLife.net

Been kinda MIA with our girls graduating but now is time to push!!! He’s numbers are still holding stable but needs a handful of people to get tested! Getting doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee but it’s a start! Knowing there is someone out there that could possibly be his match and waiting is excruciating! Be the match and save a life! 🙏🏻✝️ Cory Altman

I'm raising money to support 2025 Wichita Kidney Walk. 💚We are doing this to help raise awareness and potential donation of a kidney for my husband Cory who is needing a kidney transplant! Together, we can make a lasting impact 🙌 Will you consider making a donation today?

Why I Walk I walk because my husband Cory needs a kidney and too many families (like mine) are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come. I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Founda...
