What is the Option Period when buying a pre-owned Home? 🤔🏡

The option period is a short window of time after a contract is accepted where the buyer can back out for any reason.

Why it matters:
• The buyer uses this time to inspect the home
• Review repairs, condition, and disclosures
• Decide if they want to move forward, renegotiate, or cancel.

How it works:
• Typically 5–10 days (negotiated in the contract)
• Buyer pays a small option fee (usually $100–$300)
• If the buyer cancels during this period, they get their earnest money back.

Think of the option period as a “safety window”
It gives the buyer time to make sure the home is the right fit before fully committing.
