“Education, if it means anything, should not take people away from the land, but instill in them even more respect for it, because educated people are in a position to understand what is being lost. The future of the planet concerns all of us, and all of us should do what we can to protect it. As I told the foresters, and the women, you don’t need a diploma to plant a tree.”
— Wangari Maathai

Women will save us all.
Happy International Women’s Day!

Our first trip of the year is next week. We’re zooming around trying to get things just right to take a group of 12 of our youth camping, hiking, and caving at Colorado Bend state Park. We miss our bat friend we met last year!

Here are some items we still need. A share, donation to our page, or donation of the item would be deeply valued.

Hey y’all!

I think it’s time to formally introduce myself as the Co-Executive Director of The Bloom Project alongside with Ki’ Amber! ❤️

I love the work that we do, and it’s only been until recently that I’ve been able to reflect on how our community has changed me for the better. Growing up with an incarcerated parent was an experience that I didn’t have a lot of space and community to process. Truly, I felt the most at peace at local parks or when I went for walks in our neighborhood. I spent years searching for ways to heal from my trauma. Then, I became a classroom teacher and taught youth who I could see were struggling with the same wounds. I found ways to implement mental health, restorative justice, and healing in my classroom. I soon found that it was something that my students appreciated and needed. When I decided to leave teaching, I felt devastated. I wanted to continue to be impactful but couldn’t envision what that could like outside of the education system- until I met Ki’ Amber and the Bloom family. It’s been such a journey since then and I can’t wait to help take our healing, educating, and advocacy even further. I was recently awarded the Camelback fellowship for my work with Bloom and it pushed me to remember that little girl who had so many questions and so very little answers. I hope to grow to be the leader and person that can make her, my son, and all of our Bloom youth proud. 🫶🏼
