As we continue to celebrate Eye Donation Month, we are shining a celebratory spotlight on Beth Storie, RN (retired Quality Assurance Clinician - South Texas Veterans Healthcare System) and Catherine Alderete (Family Services Supervisor - SAEyeBank) in receiving 2025 Appreciation Awards for their above and beyond efforts towards our Donate Life, Gift of Sight mission.

You’ve likely recognized their beautiful faces and smiles in past photo posts supporting several community and partner events. Their behind the scenes support has been just strong, if not stronger.

November is Eye Donation Month. Eye Donation Month spreads the word about cornea donation and transplantation, honors selfless donors who gave the gift of sight, celebrates recipients whose lives have been transformed, and educates about donation and encourages individuals to register as donors.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 9:15 AM, a brief ceremony honoring those who have donated the gift of sight at Connally Memorial Hospital will be held. Their names will be read, and a flag will be raised in their honor. Everyone is welcome.

Over the weekend we were able to talk with community members, including a cornea donor family, at the Holiday Artisan & Farmer’s Market Mission Marquee Plaza.

We also had the opportunity to present an appreciation award to a dedicated volunteer and Donate Life, Gift of Sight donation champion. We’ll highlight her in a separate post later this week.😁

This week we are collaborating with eye bank colleagues from throughout Texas and donation collagues from across the nation, at the 2025 Donate Life America conference in Fort Worth, TX.

This morning attendees were able to hear sweet and joyful words of gratitude from Zoe, who received a cornea transplant at just 6 weeks old.

We join the EBAA in celebrating Veterans Day today and everyday 🇺🇸

Happy Veterans Day!

Today, and all year-long we show our insufficient gratitude to those who have served our country - true Everyday Heroes deserving of much more recognition than they receive.

In the EBAA community, we have a considerable number of Veterans in eye banking working to hashtag worldwide. We also have many Veteran donors who, beyond service to country, also serve others by giving the gift of sight. Here are some of their stories.

Congrats to Girl Scout Troop 606 of Girl Scouts of SW Texas in San Antonio for successfully learning and advocating on the Gift of Sight to earn their Donate Life patches 🎊 The troop made over 75 marigold to support donor heroes featured on our Bridging Lives - Dia de los Mu***os altar at Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center 🌼 They members also participated in educational presentations, toured our eye bank headquarters, created inspirational messages and images in support of Eye 👁️ Donation Month

This November, in honor of Eye Donation Month, we are partnering with local RGV coffee shops for a campaign called Sip for Sight – Coffee with a Cause….Customers are encouraged to learn about eye/cornea donation, post a photo, tag your coffee shoop and with hashtag , to be entered for weekly 🏆giveaways.
