Wanted to let everyone know about some major changes in my life. After I lost my husband to dementia and heart/lung failure in December 2018, I continued practicing in San Antonio but ended up having 4 knee surgeries that following summer.
Following the relative isolation of all those recoveries, Covid-19 landed and isolated all of us. Seeing that it would be around for way too long, I decided to move to Bend, Oregon where my stepdaughter, her husband, and two daughters live and help out as much as I could.
I intended to only rent a place, but had trouble finding a place that I could afford that was near enough and would take 2 border collies and a cat. I landed in an Airbnb about 25 minutes away in Sunriver and tried again to find a rental for about a month, with no luck.
So I decided to buy and found a great house 2 days later and they took my bid against 4 similar bids. I wrote a letter about not intending to buy and why I was, and they took my offer bc it was so well written (Go Anita, my agent with lovely rainbow hair!) and they have border collies so felt sorry for mine!
I then was involved in a wreck when someone coming the opposite direction turned left right in front of me and hit my 15 year old Land Rover - luckily we were okay. The other driver drove off and has not been found to my knowledge. My 8yo granddaughter was a bit shaken up but after an hour or so, when she couldn’t use my iphone for games/videos bc I was talking to insurance, said “Are we done yet? We’ve been here at least 2 hours!” in THAT (annoyed) tone, so I knew she was fine. Rover was totaled - the car Jim and I had since our first year or two of marriage.
So my (step) daughter said, “Well, if the Universe moves you to a new state and makes you buy a new house, I guess a new car just goes along with the deal.” I guess so!
My plan is to continue testing in San Antonio and stay at the lakehouse in Sunrise Beach when I am testing in town. I can test either in someone's home or borrow a friend's office or guesthouse.
Meanwhile, I will be applying for licensure in Oregon and building a practice here as well, testing out of my new home.
I had expected to see how I like the winters here before buying a house, but there was evidently another plan in store for me. I will wait to see what life is planning for me next, because I would have never imagined all this happening!
I'm still getting settled but planning to be in San Antonio just after Christmas for a week or two.
