What's our secret for being full with a waiting list? 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆.

Go grab four random residential care home brochures. I'll bet you at least three of them talk about "a home-like setting," and "a family-like environment." When you look at all the "come make a fortune from the Silver Tsunami" programs out there, they all talk about the ingenious idea of a "smaller, more intimate setting in a residential neighborhood." As if people are longing what "looks like" a home but feels (and usually smells) like a four-bedroom hospital.

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘵!

Here's the dirty little secret that nobody in the "come make a fortune with our program" is talking about - nobody wants a facility. They want a family. People want connection. They want family. A lot of times they want their own family. And our society isn't built that way. But it's trending that way.

Go research the trends in home renovations to support the ageing population. Research the trends in mother-in-law home renovations and "she shed" conversions to accommodate multiple generations at one address. People are doing everything they can to avoid going into an "old folks' home."

So how is that we're full with a waiting list? Simple. 𝗪𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. We open our home to three elderly people who need support throughout their day. Melissa is the primary caregiver, and there are four other capable people in our home: Me, and our three teenagers, Eryk, Iain, and Macy. Yes, teenagers. No, they don't change dirty diapers. And yes, they cook, they sit with our residents and watch movies, work puzzles, draw, paint, garden, and occasionally argue ... all that stuff that families do.
