OHWC is moving locations!

While we had been at our location on Huebner for 18 years, the owners of the building decided to sell. We are currently in transition and will be relocating to 2829 Babcock Road (Christus Tower 1). While renovations are being made to suite 600, in an effort to not disrupt patient care, we will be temporarily seeing patients out of suite 625 effective February 2025. And, we apologize in advance for the outdated layout/paint in the temporary suite 🙂.

Our phone number remains the same: (210)692-3636.

February is American Heart Month, and while heart disease has classically been viewed as a disease affecting men, it is important to realize that cardiovascular disease is actually the leading cause of death in women in the United States. Modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.

Did you also know that the risk of cardiovascular disease and hormone replacement therapy depends on a patient’s age and time from menopause? Hormone replacement therapy is not approved for cardioprotection but can be used safely for the treatment of vasomotor symptoms in many women.

January is cervical cancer awareness month. Pap smears are the primary screening test for cervical dysplasia (precancerous changes) and cervical cancer. Invasive cervical cancer generally takes years to develop, and routine screening and timely evaluation of abnormal results can identify cases of dysplasia that require treatment to prevent progression. The providers at Oak Hills Women’s Center offer Pap smear screening and evaluation of abnormal results. Call us to schedule an appointment - (210)692-3636.

Help support and fight for private practices. With continuing decline in reimbursement, many private practices will be forced to close or sell out to large corporations or private equity groups, and when this happens, that personalization and patient focused care that makes many private practices so special will be lost. Corporations and private equity groups are focused more on profit than actual patient care.

Yet another physician pay cut will prevent timely access to care

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
As 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, it is likely that all of us know someone who has had breast cancer. Early detection saves lives, and we recommend breast cancer screening starting at age 40 or sooner if significant family history or other risk factors. Additionally, we advocate for breast self-awareness, and any concerns should prompt an appointment for further evaluation.

As a mom, wife, and professional, I know how easy it is to put everyone else first and put our own needs and health on the back burner. Health maintenance is a vital component of self-care. For all of you ladies who haven’t been to the gynecologist in over a year or can’t even remember the last time you went, it’s time to call Oak Hills Women’s Center to schedule your annual well-woman exam. Don’t wait months for an appointment when we can generally see you within a day to a week.

27/07/2023

With the upcoming school year rapidly approaching, now is the time for all teachers, students, and school/university employees to come see us for annual well-woman exams, prescription/birth control refills, or any other concerns before heading back to work/school. We generally have same-day or next day appointments available.

31/01/2023

Due to continued winter weather conditions and associated school closures, we will remain closed on Wednesday, February 1st. We anticipate reopening on Thursday, February 2nd at 08:30 A.M. We hope that everyone is staying safe and warm.
