This Thanksgiving season, Michelle Gonzalez is extra thankful for living donors like her husband, Salvador Gonzalez, who donated his kidney to save her life. When Michelle was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease at age 12, she knew a transplant would one day be necessary. That day came — and her husband, Sal, stepped up without hesitation.
After losing 65 pounds to qualify as a kidney donor, Sal gave Michelle the ultimate gift. Their journey wasn’t easy — COVID delays, pregnancy challenges, and recovery hurdles — but together, they overcame it all.
Today, Michelle feels healthier and happier, and Salvador even ran a marathon to raise awareness for PKD. Their story is a powerful reminder of the impact of living donation. Learn more about organ donation and how you can make a difference at https://bit.ly/4oiKywY.
