Since 1963, Methodist Healthcare has continuously evolved to meet the growing needs of the greater San Antonio community. Our commitment has never wavered in consistently improving the health and wellness of our community by living our mission of "Serving Humanity to Honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare accessible to all." Methodist Healthcare is a 50-50 co-ownership between Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., South Texas’ largest non-public funding source of community health care for uninsured patients, and HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. This creates a unique partnership that ensures Methodist Healthcare Ministries continues to benefit the community by providing quality care to all and charitable care when needed. Methodist Healthcare invested $818 million in charity and indigent care to the community in 2022 alone. With 30 facilities, including ten hospitals and eight freestanding emergency departments, the Methodist Healthcare team is comprised of 12,500 employees, making the system the second largest private employer in San Antonio. With more than 3,500 credentialed physicians, Methodist Healthcare provides the region's largest array of medical services, including neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, oncology, and women’s services.

Today, we celebrate one of the most exciting milestones in medicine: Match Day.

Match Day is the moment when medical students across the country learn where they will begin their residency training, taking the next step in their journey to becoming physicians. It’s a day filled with anticipation, purpose, and the start of something truly meaningful.

At Methodist, our Graduate Medical Education (GME) program is designed to develop the next generation of physicians through hands-on clinical experience, mentorship, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. Our residents are not only learning medicine, they are shaping the future of healthcare in the communities we serve.

On , we are proud to welcome our newest residents to the Methodist family!

As Dr. Justin Williams shares, “Match Day represents the beginning of a physician’s calling in action. We are honored to welcome these talented individuals into our program, where they will grow, lead, and make a lasting impact on the lives of our patients and our community.”

Dr. Williams serves as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), responsible for assuring and maintaining accreditation of the Graduate Medical Education programs across Methodist Healthcare System.

We're excited about using an AI-enabled tool to help identify potentially dangerous coronary plaque sooner during coronary CT angiograms — including “soft” plaque that can be harder to detect with traditional imaging.

“A year from now, this will probably be one of the most common exams we get in the emergency department, because it’s just too valuable. It’s just too valuable to know how much plaque you have,” said Dr. Michael Lane, medical director of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging.

Dr. Lane helped the company behind the new tool validate the technology, which is now in use across 11 Methodist hospitals and four outpatient clinics. Learn more about how this will help guide next steps in cardiovascular care.

Methodist Healthcare is using AI-assisted imaging to detect soft plaque in arteries, a leading contributor to heart attacks in the U.S.

Strengthening relationships with our first responders is an essential part of our commitment to excellence in safety, preparedness, and community service.

Recently, Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills had the honor of welcoming the San Antonio Police Department to our hospital for a meet‑and‑greet and collaborative presentation. By working side‑by‑side with SAPD, we continue building the strong partnerships needed to keep our patients, visitors, and teams safe. We are grateful for their dedication and look forward to future opportunities to enhance our readiness and support our shared mission of caring for San Antonio.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when found early. Screening can help detect changes before cancer develops, and can help find cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage.

✅ If you’re 45 or older, talk with your doctor about screening options.
✅ If you have a family history or other risk factors, you may need to start earlier.

Today we celebrate International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) Day and recognize the vital role IBCLCs play in supporting new mothers in their breastfeeding journey. At Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills, IBCLC Betty Guerrero has spent more than 20 years guiding families through the very first feeding moments with compassion and expertise.

When first time mom Anette began feeding her baby girl Juliette, she wondered whether her baby was getting enough. Betty stepped in with calm support, helping her measure colostrum, teaching positioning, answering questions, and offering steady reassurance.

“Betty helped me feel confident and gave me peace of mind. She never made me feel pushed. I just felt supported,” Anette shared.

These moments are at the heart of Betty’s work. She says it is a blessing when moms later recognize her and share how well their babies are doing and that they are still breastfeeding. She is also grateful for the strong teamwork within the Labor and Delivery unit and the support they provide to new families together. This month, we celebrate Betty Guerrero for her passion, her clinical expertise, and the comfort she brings to every family she serves. Every birth story is unique.🤰 For some moms, it may involve cesarean delivery, also known as a C-section. Doctors perform this major abdominal surgery for a variety of reasons, often related to complications during pregnancy or delivery. If you’re expecting a baby, it’s important to understand the risks and benefits of the procedure. For example, having a C-section increases the chance that you will need a C-section for future deliveries.

If you’re expecting and exploring your birth options – including when a C section might be recommended – finding the right obstetrician is an important first step. Meet our experts and schedule an appointment: https://bit.ly/46B9KZU
