Happy Black Breastfeeding Week

This has been a humbling experience filled with of twists and turns. Lip tie and tongue tie revisions, combo feeding, inverted ni***es, ni**le shields, mastitis, diet changes, reflux meds.

Yet here we are 9 months and still going.

It takes resources, support and patience. Thank God I had some amazing people like , OT, and the pediatric dentist team in New Braunfels, my sister and fiancé.

I am confident in my instincts and now the practice of breastfeeding has hit a happy easier stage.

Community is so important when learning this new skill and figuring out the basics and complexities of breastfeeding.

❣️Fate moves and gives us the people we need to meet.❣️

I’m thankful met and teamed up with doulas who share the same passion to protect the doula career and profession from those who seek to exploit us.

❣️This is a message and campaign of that work:
“As Black Maternal Health Week begins, I’m calling on all of our people.

Several months ago, I learned about NDCB. I started asking: How do we dismantle what they’re trying to build, as they try to move in silence?

Because we’ve seen this before—just like in the field of midwifery.

NOT on our watch.

😡The National Doula Certification Board—is trying to regulate and profit off doula care. Silencing birthkeepers. Erasing cultural wisdom. Trying to undermine everything we’ve built.😡

This isn’t care. It’s control.
This isn’t equity. It’s extraction.
And we’re not having it.

So I got to work. What began as a four-hour strategy session in a hotel room turned into a powerful action network of doulas, midwives, legal advocates, and birth justice warriors across the country.
